Help for Correct Shifter Position for TKO 600

If I am going to use the stock/standard Shelby Kit Cobra shift "bar/lever" (the one that binds forward and to the driver side), what position do I put the shifter stub for the Tremec TKO 600?

Do I leave the TKO 600 shifter in the "back position", the way it came in the box?
Do I flip the TKO 600 shifter stub around (180 degrees) and put it in the front position?

I want this bar/lever to be in the "normal" position.

I believe the 600 only comes with the rear-most shifter unless specially ordered and I think the rear shifter won't fit the other two positions. Different bolt patterns.
On a 427 model car, the rear would be the most "correct" position.

Thanks for the info but I need a little more clarification:

The shifter mech (the red part) that comes with the TKO is in the "rear position" but it can be un-bolted and flipped around (180 degrees) to what they call the 16.75" position. Will that position work for my shifter lever? Or do I have to leave it they way it came in the box (all the way back in that rear position)?

Again, I am looking to use the standard (forward binding) shift bar/lever and dont want it too far back or too far forward.

Any feed back is appreicated.

you should mount the turret in the most backward position possible. Even then the shifter will we more forward than with the TL and you need to enlarge the hole in the trans tunnel forward (and backwards if in your car the turret sticks out of the tunnel because you have to have space to slip the TKO spline shaft into the clutch).
good luck!

Mine is a LSC and is in the rear position just as from Tremec

Scott,
I see what your saying now. I didn't know it could be switched like that but it makes sense.
I guess you learn something new everyday!
Which ever position would make it the farthest towards the rear would be the best IMO. On my car, (I have a 600 RR also) the shifter is a little too far forward when compared to an original car. I suspect most replicas are similar so I'd say back is the way to go.

I have an ERA with a 427 FE, Lakewood scatter shield, and TKO 600. Shifter is in the stock, rear position. After install the tranny ended up anout 1/2" further forward than with the prior Tremec 3550, but I was still able to fit it through the transmission tunnel shifter hole and get the rubber boot over it.

Hi Scott,

I went through this drill a month ago. I decided on the rear-most position (as it came from Tremec), and find it to be perfect. The shifter is right there next to the steering wheel. Superformance MKIII.
