SPF Transmission question
I bought SPF # 967 used so I can't tell you which Tremac transmission I have. Here's the problem. A month ago I noticed when I shifted into 3rd, there was a grinding sound. Later that day (in 1st) it happened again. In both cases I pushed the clutch in and took it out of gear to remedy the problem and it didn't happen again. Today while just lunking along in town, I shifted into 3rd and when I pushed the shifter all the way forward I get the grinding sound and it won't stop until I pull it out of gear and then shift back in again. I am not a mechanic but think maybe 1st and 3rd (being in the same general position on the shifter) are moving each other. Any ideas? The car has 3800 miles on it. Could it be transmission fluid, linkage, or internal? HELP

I've read a few times that the Tremec 3550 has an issue with the third gear syncro. Not sure if your car has the 3550 or not though or even if that's the problem but it may be something to look at.

Thanks Blas,
Man, you've helped me through a lot of stuff since I bought # 967 (Lili to me). Are you telling me that if I put this fluid in my problems are over? Of course you know the next question...how do I put it in? Do I have to take the tunnel off? Make that two brats I owe you. Jeff |
