Tremec 3550 leak
I left my newly aquired Superformance with a Tremec 3550 in my friends garage after we took a drive last weekend. When we pulled into the garage we noticed it was leaking a bit. Looked red like ATF fluid. He left me an e-mail saying he thought it was coming from the rear of the trans. He thought it might be the rear trans seal.
Does this make sense? Are leaks common, or rare? Are there other places on the trans that are likely leak sources I should check? If it is the rear seal, is that a big deal to replace? Thank you, Jack |
Yes there are other places the trans could leak from. The most common spots are where the main case and tail meet or the rear seal or a top plate. On the tail seal where the yoke is that is a very simple fix. If you need a seal we have them for 6 dollars or so and you can get them from any shop that deals with tremec. You can use a small pry bar and pop it out and then I use a peice of aluminum thats the same size as my seal driver to put it back in. Give me a call if you need any help with it at 865-609-8187 ext 207

leak
I would suggest that you check all the bolts, wipe it clean and wait to see if it leaks. A small amount of fluid could have leaked from the yoke/tailshaft during installation. Drive the car for a few hundred miles and check for leak.
