Do I need the block plate between trans and motor ?

Hi,

I am having trouble sourcing the correct block plate (the thin steel bit) that goes between my T5 and 302 Windsor. What would happen if I did not use it ?

Thanks,
Daniel

What bell housing are you going to use? My

Lakewood bell housing came with the block plate. I'm not sure what'll happen if you don't use one..

The answer is an overwhelming resounding YES. The length of the input shaft on most any transmission you would use takes into account the thickness of the block plate. Omitting the plate could jam the pilot shaft too far into the pilot bearing. Plus, the block plate is a good aide to help keep dirt and other unwanted garbage out of the bellhousing and the clutch.

Most definitely you'll need to use a block plate. You can find them here used in wrecking yards in excellent condition for $10-15 dollars.

If you are not in a big hurry I'll send one to you for the shipping charges after the first of the year. I'm putting on a scattersheild and will have no use for the old block plate or bellhousing

You can buy the block plate (Lakewoood) as a separate line item through all the main wholesale houses, Jegs, Summit, Northern etc... Just get on Lakewood's web site, look up you're application and get their part number... simple as that. This is all assuming that your bellhousing's Lakewood???

Leaving the block plate off increases your input shaft insertion only by 1/8" (still enough to send you to prison in 18 states.. ). You'd probably be fine with the 1/8" deeper input depth. That being said, I'd still take comparative measurements to know exactly how much room I have to work with.

Not to mention the difference in clutch adjustment...

G.R. - Thanks for the offer, I'll try a couple more places in NZ first and let you know how I get on. I am using the standard alloy bellhousing.

I saw 3 or 4 OEM block plates on Ebay for 10 to 15 bucks..
