Would like some member feedback on G-Force T-5's

I've got my big in/out CR Toploader on the auction block with the idea in mind of finding a 5-speed with a lower first gear and a usable overdrive.

I know TKO500/600's are all the rage now (in both respects) and are a viable option.

But has anyone put a G-Force modified T5 behind a 550hp FE? If I read their documentation correctly, it would be stout enough to hold my application.

Here are the pros that I see so far:

1. A T-5 is a little lighter.
2. You can pick some of the gear ratios and the overdrive ratio. (3-4 choices on the OD)
3. From what I've heard, T-5's shift slicker than TKO's.

Cons?

The cheapest I can find a TKO600 is $1699 with free shipping.

I can find nice T-5's for $200-250 all day long. Add in a $150 rebuild kit, the $1095 G-Force upgrade, some spare time, and I see the GFT-5 coming in at around $1495.

Any comments?

I've read all the literature I could find on the G-force T5's and Gordon Levy's Superduty T5 trannys also. In fact, I'll probably end up with Gordon's tranny behind my 393 when all is said and done.
A member of our club runs a G-force T5 behind his 515 RWHP twin turbo 347 and has had nothing but great things to say about it. He says it shifts as smooth as most T5's and hasn't shown any problems yet.

I plan on running a fresh T5 in the Lotus behind a 392 and if/when it breaks doing a Dog face G-Force. Here is a thread on the G-Force.

Bob:

Do you have any details that you can post or e-mail me in re the Levy superduty T-5? I sent an e-mail to Mr. Levy asking for details and he sent an e-mail back telling me to give him a call. I may do that after the first of the year. But I'd rather not have to try to write down a bunch of notes on the details while on the phone if you already have them.

Thanks

Hope the weather is good there in Hillsboro

Only what I've heard from others and from Gordon. Try giving Gordon a call. He is a very straight shooter and I've heard nothing but good things about his Superduty T5. I believe his price is a bit below the Gforce unit also.

Blykins,
I am running G-force T-5 with every upgrade that they have. Dog ring straight cut grears. My engine was not dynoed before it went into my classic roadster II.
But it is a 351 W built to the hilt!!!! On the chassi dyno it pulled just shy of 425 horse and I cant remember the actual torque. But I treat it like it should be treated!!! I am not nice to it by any means. And it handles it and begs for more. I went with G-force because i heard they had good customer service. Well I ordered it while I was delpoyed to Kuwait and they would never put me on hold. if they had someone else on the line they always talked to me first and called the other customer back. Then I had my throw out bearing go out so they sent me a new one free of charge with a new pressure plate, clutch and fluid 2nd day air via ups.
I would recomend contacting them and talking with them. I bought the complete tranny from them and kept my old T-5 and sold it to a CC member.
Just my 2 bits worth.
Matt

Is this a race only car? I imagine straight gears would be a dog to drive on the street...

kidcobra 12-28-2006 07:24 PM

it is a street car. It took a long time to get used to it!!!! I did it so I could take it to the track and not worry about anythig. Well anything but me crashing
