Need advice on Blowproof Bellhousing install costs
Would like to hear from other CC members what would be reasonable estimates for labor and parts to install a McLeod blowproof bellhousing in a small block SPF? One local installer has verified that the easiest way is to remove the seats and pop the trans. tunnel. They also confirmed that on the SB installs the McLeod is superior hands-down with regard to proper alignment out of the box (80% of them). But they use a dial-indicator on all just to verify.
I'm awaiting their estimate (they do a lot of Cobras, specifically SPFs because of their proximity to SPF headquarters), but I don't want this to get too out of hand from a $$$ perspective. I figured that with the parts it should be around $1,x00.00 (excluding any clutch/flywheel parts that may need replacing while they are in there), but I'm not a good estimator on this. I could probably do the work myself, but it's more a time management issue for me right now. However, high estimates may change my mind on this. Thanks, everyone. -Dean |
I'm not a expert by any stretch, but I had reasonablely good luck with a Lakewood on a Corvette, but you may want to consider having a machine shop surface any new bellhousing so that you know you have a flat surface. In fact, the instructions from the manufacturer (Keisler in this case, because it was a 5-speed conversion kit) may have recommended it, but its been a long time. The surfacing didn't cost much and, assuming you know of a good machine shop, you ensure a flat surface.

Actually it seems that I have heard the most problems from McLeod but I can't back it up.

I have mcclod in mine and didn't have any problems at all. I also did not remove the tunnel, although it probbaly would have made it easier for putting the linage backe together.

It seems that there were fitment problems due to quality problems in thier modular line. These problems may/probably have been worked out. It is always prudent to dial in any bellhousing.

Easiest to install and give a little more room around the bell area.
