What do you guys think of this setup for the street?
331 stroker, TKO 0.64, 15" wheels, and 3.77 rear diffy.

I've got the TKO600, .82 OD, 3.46 rear, and 295/50 15s. I actually wish I had a little more OD. I'm up in the 2700-3000 range on the freeway most of the time. If Tremec offered a .75 OD to split the difference between the .68 and .82 I think they would have a winner.
Only other complaint was the 2-3 shift when really going for it. I just got a Steeda Tri-Ax shifter for it, so as soon as I'm done breaking my rebuilt motor in I'll give it a try and see if that fixed my issue. |

With the stoke 427 FE the CR toploader and 3.31 at parking lot speed take some getting use to but the 482 Stroker it seem just right.
It all depends on what you are going to use your car for. The toploader can take a pounding with a Comp plus shifter. I have driven a BDR with a TKO 500 and have to say I you can't jam it. It takes a little finesse. A top loader with an original shifter needs a little finesse too. |

I have never had a tranny lock up and none of our customers has ever complained of it. We race at www.millermotorsportspark.com and pit lane is perfectly flat so we don't have to chock or ebrake. They were pretty smart when they built that place. The problem with the 0.62 over drive and freeway speeds is you run the serious risk of lugging the motor. Lugging a motor can cause the motor to detonate! Flooring the accelerator at highway speeds in a high gear is very likely to cause detonation in the engine. One of the variables that causes detonation is time. The slower the engine is turning, literally the more time there is for the engine to detonate. Also, the RPM numbers that have been posted are not accurate for our cars with our tire set ups. (They may be accurate for other people's set ups on their cars). We run 275-60-15 tires in the rear (28 inch diameter and 87.9 inch circumference). With a 3.42 differential and 0.82 over drive, our RPM's at 80 miles/hour are 2694.1--or you could say 2700 RPM's. That is about perfect for highway cruising. Lugging a motor down to 1500 RPM's and flooring on the freeway to pass some dude in a Vette is asking for long weekend in the garage pulling your motor out and finding little pieces of your rings and piston in your exhaust pipe. This is especially true in cars that lock out the advance (like we do). Centripetal advance helps to prevent the motor from detonating under these circumstances. Computer controlled fuel injected motors help to prevent detonation as well under these circumstances. David :):):) |
