Tr 3550short input vs: adaptor
Is it more economical to replace a long shaft with a short input shaft or use the adaptor? Anybody exchanged the input shaft?
Thanks. John |
Really and truely it will cost you about the same either way you go, one benefit to the adaptor plate is that you do not have to remove the input shaft. Removing the input is not hard, you just want to make sure you don't drop any of the needle bearings on the inside of the input into the transmission. Although some cars, like Kirkhams, require you use the short shaft so the transmission crossmember will line up. jimig@standardtransmission.com

Thanks for the info. It's appreciated.

I wouldn't use the adapter. To me, it's just something else to cause a misalignment. If you receive the shortened shaft with the bearing already pressed on it, it literally takes 10 minutes to swap and doesn't require any rocket science. I did it on mine and I'm glad I did.
If you call Bruce Couture at Modern Driveline, you can swap your input shaft for one that's ready to go. Mine was new, so he gave me a sweet deal on a shortened one. |
