Too much torque. Suggest you install a small block .... maybe a V-6

Original 40 year old part, won't happen with a ner shaft.

Tony Radford 07-29-2007 05:54 AM

Tim, I took it back to the place that built it originally. The main shaft was replaced in '98, so it only has 22K miles on it. Warren, it IS a small block. Oh well, I guess it can happen again because I don't plan on backing off.

I can't see the ends where it's snapped, but from the angle of the pic it appears that it had a crack that existed and finally failed all the way through. When the part was replaced was it with a brand new part or a good used one?? I would suggest having the replacement magnafluxed to catch any existing cracks/flaws before assembling.

Metal Fatigue, it can happen to the best.
