6 speed behind an FE will a cobra 2003 trans work?
Has anyone done this?
|
Gessford Motorcars did one, so yes, you can make it physically bolt to an FE. It's a big trans, so it may not fit in your chassis of choice without modifications.

Thanks Kris....we used a T-56 special input built by Rockland.

Simple and easy.... no modifications and Lakewood SFI Bell Housings in completely in tact. It's magic! (smile) and works on a 4" DOM Steel Tubing Shelby Chassis CSX4402. Quicktime do a steel bellhousing, see here:

Wow!!!!!! Nice install. I wonder if it will fit in a kirkham. I'm waiting for David's reply. So it's basically the same trans as a Cobra SVT right? What did the adapter run?

With the current set up you will need to remove the cross member that the transmission bolts onto. I am opposed to cutting up the frame... That is why our 5 speed mount is the way it is.
I am also working with a gear manf to see if it is possible to shorten the bell housing and make everything fit. Also the T56 gear ratios are not the best... Unless you use Rocklands or G-Forces gears (not cheap). I am also looking at a more wallet friendly way of getting better gear ratios for the T56... |

If anyone would like this in a spread sheet email me.
How do I post an excel spreadsheet? |
Would a 6 speed make driving the car more enjoyable than a 5 speed with the appropriate rear gear selected? With a properly built FE you'll have torque all over the place and should easily pull a .64 od with 3.54 gears. Even go down to a 3.07 and the .82 OD, and I'm sure the car will have more power than the average guy could handle. It just seems like a lot of expense for such little (if any) return.

Tom,
I love the way my 2003 Cobra shifts but I also agree I wouldn't want t cut the frame. The current set up you guys offer is still set up for a toploader though. To put a 5 speed in don't you have to weld in a new x-member? chris |
Tom,
The website currently does not support the XL spreadsheet .xls file type. However, you can still post an XL spreadsheet by changing its file type to an MS Word file type (.doc) and then using the paperclip attachment icon in the message tool bar to attach it. When readers download it they change the file type back to .xls and the file opens normally with Excel. Ed |
