Toploader Linkage Adjustment Question

So I have my shifter bolted to my toploader and all the linkage hooked up. I need to adjust the linkage. The 1/4" pin is in the adjustment hole on the shifter, and the arms are lined up properly. I'm ready to tighten the nuts on the shift rods.

In what positions should the shift arms on the tranny be?

You first manually put the toploader gears all into neutral, they should "click" into place. You then manually move the shifter throw arms, underneath, so they are in a middle position such that ther is a notch in the side of the shifter housing that you are able to put a alignment drill bit/bolt, to align the shifter arms in neutral position, (like what you have said you have already done, and then you manually adjust the shifter ends of the rods to fit the length between the shifter arms on the tranny and the shifter arms underneath the shifter.

Thanks Anthony. I know it may seem like a dumb question, but every shop manual I read goes into detail on the shifter, but conveniently ignores the shift arms on the tranny.

By the way, if anyone needs an original Ford shifter for their Toploader, give Bill Heeley a call. Great guy, fast shipping, and an absolutely beautiful rebuilt Ford shifter. And he has the correct Cobra bass-ackwards shift lever so the reverse lockout even works.
