Shifter Trim Ring

I have a toploader with a Hurst Competition Plus shifter with the round replica shift rod. The length of the shift pattern is apparently too long because the "original style" 3.5" ID boot ring won't allow full engagement of the gears. Has anyone else experianced this? Is there a way to shorten the shift pattern? Thank you for any assistance.

I had the same setup and didn't have any problems. Is your engine/trans angle steep enough to where the transmission sits further down in the tunnel than usual?

I'll have to look into that, and see how drive shaft angle is changed by raising the rear of the transmission.
