Leaking Cable
Hi Gang,
I noticed that I have a small drip coming from a cable in the driver's side of the tranny nose cone (Just below the shifter) I think this is the speedo cable but not sure. I saw a 3/8 bolt that tightened a clamp to hold the cable in. Tightened it but it had more to go. My gut feeling is that it shouldn't be tightened too much therefore these questions: ***How tight can the clamp (Bolt) be torqued? ***If the drip doesn't stop, is there an o-ring or something that can be replaced? ***If so, any tricks I should know when fixing it? ***If this has been covered before, any idea where that info resides? (I tried several topics in search without much success) Thanks for your help, Ivan |
There is an o-ring behind it. Cinch it down pretty good....I usually just put a small wrench on it and pull it down hand tight.

Laeking Cable
One more thing, Brent...In case the leak doesn't stop, can I reverse the o-ring and re-install...Looks like not much tranny oil will come out when I remove that clamp and cable.
Thanks again, Ivan |
Sounds like the speedo cable to me. How tight the clamp is doesn't make it seal. there are O-rings that seal the cable inside the tranny. Undo the clamp and pull the cable out of the transmission, and replace the O-rings. Make sure if there is an adapter in the line that it is tight.

Thanks Fred,
I'll get to it as soon as I finish replacing my shock mounts. Appreciate the feedback... Regards, Ivan |
Put a thin coat of oil on the new O-ring and in the hole before re-installing so you don't tear or damage the O-ring on re-install.

It is not the o-ring. It is where the silver part crimps to the black cable. Easy fix take some RTV and smear it around the crimp to seal between the crimp and cable. I used a hot glue gun because I was in a hurry and so far so good. If you remove the cable from the transmission let it hang for awhile so all the fluid can drip out of it then put the rtv, like I said i was in a hurry so i removed and used a hot glue gun since it dries immediately.
