T5 with S10 tail piece
Has anyone done this conversion for a Cobra?
Does it change the length of the drive shaft? Any help would be appreciated......thanks |
Are you trying to replicate the shifter position of a toploader by putting the S10 tailhousing on a T-5?

Speedo cable end different, speed gear different position, not world class box not sure if yoke different, input shaft 6" (ford) vs 6.6" (chev) on t5550 may or may not apply see also http://www.5speeds.com/t5 |
Give Standard Transmission & Gear a call but only talk to Charlie Jetton he is the GM and knows all about them, I learned eveything I know about high performance Tremec and custom transmissions from him. I wouldn't recommend talking to any of the other salesman or you might regret calling. I worked there and we did this to some Ford units but I can't remember what exactly we had to do to make the S10 tail fit on the Ford main assembly.

I have done it. World class or not has no bearing on the tail shaft. Out put length is the same. Speedo end must be replaced and speedo drive gear need to be adjusted. The s10 has a different shift rod and offset lever. These are just part swaps. The speedo drive gear is the only problem. The gear fits too loosely on the output shaft so it must be shimmed in its new postion. Yoke is the same, Ford. Shifter is different for other T5s. S10 came with either an electric or cable speedo drive. Make sure to get the cable model. Housing is a straight bolt up. Changing overdrive ratios is a whole nother subject. I used a new T5z box with the s10 housing

Forgot to mention that the speedo driven gear assembly must be changed in addition to the cable end.
