tremec or bust
OK,OK,OK.Now that I've been at this darn computer all day till 2:30 am ,I'm more worried now than ever before about the tremec 600.I have read people say "I guess I have to figure a way to make the tunnel removable "due to the problems of oil leaks, hung up gears, vibrations ,locked up gears due to overthrow or creeping in gear,on and on and on.So with a limited budget what are we to do?Is this a piece of &%@# or not?WHAT is the consensus of my fellow cobrians?Come on guys and gals.Let it all out now:CRY:.Come on,now is the time to set the record straight .And I was worried about shifter placement? **)Johnny g or jojoegen

I have the TKO 600 and love it. No problems here. I have big horse power and big torque and that is the tranny of choice for me. Behind this big block this 5 speed works great.

I personnally think that you are worried too much about the TKO-600. It has been a fantastic transmission. You will only hear the negative side, mostly due to installing errors or storage errors. not really fair if you ask me. Now I'm not saying that I haven't had leak, I simply ship it back and they fix it. One leak in let say 40 installs. Not too bad.

I am one of the unfortunate folks that had a TKO600 stick in gear.
The repair, and the "fix"....a revised lug, were fairly easy to accomplish. Jimi G, at Standard Transmission, was very very helpful and easy to work with. Would I buy another one? Absolutely. Mike |
The Tremec is the transmission behind many factory cars as well as a popular aftermarket transmission.
The failure rates are not as high as you may think...;) |
Love mine. No problems.

Thank you all for your comebacks.Guess I worried tooooo much right BLITTLETON. Thanx again jojoegen

Almost 6K miles on mine and no squeaks or leaks. No sticking in gear either.

I have had a Tremec 3550 for 10 years and 9800 miles, not a drop of oil or bit of trouble.

1] Before installing trans remove shipping plug in rear tailhousing. spin input shaft while trans is in neutral. It should spin freely
2] Now put trans into 1st gear again spin input it should spin although not as easy this takes care of the stuck in gear due to shipping 3] Once installed ,while rear is in the air [supported] run engine and shift through the gears 1,2,3,4,5,4,3,2,1 back and forth a few times to help break the trans in this breaks in the trans with no load |
Tko 600
I have over 5,000 miles on my TKO 600 and love it.

I have about 405 trouble-free miles on my TKO 600 (0.64) so far! I have a 331 with a 3.77 diffy. At 80 mph the engine is doing 2500 rpm. I don't park the car in gear..
