Starter bendix gear engaging ring gear
I have just swapped out the bell housing for a Quick Time Bell. Also I am using a very small two disc clutch and a button fly wheel. The fly wheel is the same size as the clutch (7.25"). This forces me to use a automatic flex plate for the ring gear and starter. When I installed the flex plate, fly wheel and clutch the Flex plate has only about 1/4" clearance from the engine side back plate of the bell housing. Now when I installed the starter the bendix gear in engaged with the ring gear of the flex plate. the starter is a power master that i use with a traditional fly wheel. Can I space the starter with a spacer between it and the bell to get proper alignment for the starter? This spacer would have to be 5/8" making the base of the starter 1". Any help would be appreciated.%/

i don't understand but your flexplate is too large? you need a bellhousing for the larger dia. flexplate? i think there is a 153 tooth and 167 tooth, or something like that. sounds like a mismatch maybe?

You need a new (different) nose piece for the starter. Your application requires that you one for Automatic Transmission application, it will move the starter further away from the flywheel. Shims by themselves probably wont work. Contact Power Master or any other starter company that uses that same starter and see if you can purchase a different nose piece.
