Will bellhousing/transmission from a 5.0 HO fit onto a 351-C?
Well, guys, I just completed a deal on a used 427 cobra, and it currently has a 5.0 HO/WC T-5 out of a 1989 Mustang GT (converted from EFI to carb). I'm already dreaming about more power and have a 351 Cleveland sitting in my garage, waiting for an excuse to be built. This seems like a great reason.
So, I've posted this here, since it's more of a "transmission" issue than a motor issue--will there be any difficulty fitting the bellhousing from the 5.0 to the Cleveland? I know that the Cleveland has the SBF bellhousing bolt pattern, I'm just wondering if anyone else might have made this swap and might have some advice or war stories. I know the flywheel/pressure plate will need to be specific to the Cleveland, I'm just wondering if there will be any issues getting a clutch disc to fit, if there will be any unexpected problems with the starter, whether or not the input shaft for the WC T-5 will be long enough to insert into the splines on the clutch disc, that sort of thing. Thanks in advance for whatever help you can provide in this issue. Dugly  |
Yes, you can use the bellhousing on a Cleveland. Just remember to use the correct flywheel. A 5.0 flywheel is 50oz.
