Just a short follow up to the kit car - collector car registration question in NJ. I wrote an email to the NJ Replicar Club asking if kit cars can be registered under collector car status. Below is the response I received:
Yea it sure can! Join the club and I will tell you how! LOL But really I extend an invitation for you to join. what you need to do is get classic insurance and be able to prove it. and fill out form SS-66 (R5/99) "Application For Collector Vehicle Status" They attached a JPEG of the form in the email. One of the points the response makes is the requirement for classic insurance. I hope I didn't muddy up the waters too much with my earlier statement about no collector car registration for kit cars. I was merely parroting what I had been told by DMV. Now I have to get ready for that engineering inspection. Robert |
Rob-
Thanks for the update, that's good news. And keep us posted on the engineering inspection. Mike |
So, I should not tell you about Tim's (aka:mustangman) experience with the NJDMV inspection folks.......Something about not having a Chevy "SPA" (the class he races in with his GrandSport replica) in their database.........I fell off my chair when he told me that one........
Bill S. PS: All cars, new and old are elegible for the new "collector car" (aka:limited useage) registration package...The only item they check besides your insurance eligibility is your odometer to make sure it is working, as the state limits you to 2,500 miles a year........ |
