Cruzin the Catskills
What's up with you Jersey boys? The Catskills are ablast to drive. Nice winding roads and lots of scenery. Almost no traffic to deal with. I do about 150 on a Sunday drive with a stop for lunch.
Port Jervis makes a good start and meeting place. Blast through the Crow's Nest a few times then up to the mountains. Anyone interested? I live in Orange County, NY. |
sounds great! we (bunch of ford mustangs, lightnings, etc) just did a cruise this past sunday from fairfield nj west to 521 in blairstown, up 206, 6, to high point and back to nj via 23....awesome day, awesome cruise, 175 miles....
right now, my cobra is out of commission with a broken TO bearing, but I'd join ya with one of my other vehicles....gotta love the roads upstate! |
Please describe Crow's Nest and what is the point of interest there. Main roads, type, etc...
thanks, jong |
Hawks Nest is an area just west out of Port Jervis, NY. In particular, there is a short stretch of twisty road with shear rock wall on one side and 100+ feet of cliff on the other side of this two lane stretch. The sound of your exhaust echoing off the rock face is mindblowing.
It was in a BMW commercial, and numerous other commercials. It's a blast to go through by mayself. When I make a retun run, everyone on the sides gives the thumbs up. I can just imagine about 20 Cobra's coming through at once. The roads from there can go anywhere you want, down in PA or north to the Catskills. There is a similiar road on the Hudson, just north of West Point. It's called route 218. These are some of my playgrounds. |
Cobraman, can you be more specific? Do you know the name of the road? Rte 23 gives me a clear shot to Port Jervis, from there Im confused.

As you go through Port Jervis you pick up 97 North along the Delaware. This runs through the Hawks Nest and continues north along the river for some very scenic driving. I usually take it up to Barryville and cross over into Shahola, PA and work my way back from the PA side.

Sorry to leave out the specifics, but Roscoe is correct.
