West Coast Cobras in NC?
I'm seriously considering a West Coast Cobra after sitting in and/or driving several other popular replicas recently. I just can't get a really good feel for the actual lines of the WC model from the internet or catalogue photos. Does anyone around here have a West Coast you might be so kind as to let me see?
Also, for any of you with good knowledge / experience between the different manufacturers (theoretical OR hands-on): how do you feel the West Coast Cobra stacks up against the 'competition'? Thanks in advance for any insight. |
depends what you are after....if the non-original body size and lines don't matter the west coast is a great car. it is a monster weighing in at 3200 lbs. and drives like a mid sized ford from the mid 70's 80's. its wider, longer, and the doors are longer making it a bit more comphy getting in and out. you can get passed on the highway by a tractor trailer and you don't have to say hail mary's that you don't get blown into the guardrail. you can get everyone to tell you about the different makes but until you drive some and feel them yourself its all conjecture

Thanks FWB - Your description on the potential handling is great insight. I LOVED the comfort & stability of my old Mercedes V12 roadster, but the weight itself also greatly dampened the full effect & "sport" handling of that otherwise modified 325 rwhp beast!
Hopefully I can find one to at least see, but the lines themselves APPEAR to look great to me from 2-dimensional perspectives. I love the original-sized models, but after driving two of them, I'm definitely cognizant of how much I value my long-distance comfort. |

there is a very low fatigue level in long trips. and is quite comfortable to drive. your arm doesn't have to hang out of the window to drive. where it isn't as nimble in the corners as the other models it really drives nice and its forgiving on rough roads. the frames and the body are massively strong to handle any big block with no issues. mine is 30 years old and the fiberglass is so thick it has no traces of stress cracks.

Jeez, now THAT'S exactly the kind of side by side comparison I've been looking for - thanks for the pic! I do love that stance in comparison. My weather vane is starting to point more and more toward the West Coast. **)

West coast dreams
I will receive mine on 3/9/10. I went to vern's shop and spent 4 hours going over his design of the car i think it is one of strongest frames out there. He has been building these cars over thirty years and still is building thank you jim

I have to say that the 6" extra inches in length and 4" in width really make a difference. I ended up buying a West Coast last October from a Utah friend I met through one of these forums. And I'm STILL loving every minute of it! Xack - I don't live in Virginia, but I've been driving the she-beast all over as weather & time allow (probably the closest to you so far would be Roanoke early last month). But especially if you plan to hit the Blue Ridge sometime, give me a call & we'll meet up... any photos of your beast to share? Larry |
