2013 Tail of the Dragon & Cherohala Skyway run
It's that time of the year again.
Tail of the Dragon = 318 curves in 11 miles Cherohala Skyway = 43 miles of God's Country that leaves no doubt as to why it was registered a National Scenic Byway Saturday, October 26th, 2013 Same as in years past: We'll meet up with some of the western NC crowd & hotel overnighters at the I-40 Exit 44 Cracker Barrell just west of Asheville a little before 8am for breakfast; meet up with others at Fontana Dam around 11am; catch up, have some laughs, take in the scenery, then head out northbound to slay the Dragon. From there, we'll decide whether to run it again southbound & grab lunch at Deal's Gap or Robbinsville before a westbound Skyway run; wrap around TN to Tellico Plains for a full eastbound run; etc. Who's in? |
For anyone who might be lurking or on the fence, our rough schedule from around the Charlotte/Mooresville area this Saturday will be:
05:45am - meet/leave the Sheets gas station at I-77 Exit 42 (~Troutman) 08:00am - arrive at Cracker Barrell, I-40 Exit 44 (~Asheville) for breakfast 09:00am - depart Cracker Barrell for Fontana Dam ~10:00am - fuel & restroom break at Great Smokey Mountain Bait & Tackle (4470 Hwy 19/74 Bryson City, NC 28713) 11:00am - Fontana Dam 11:30am (or whenever) - depart Fontana Dam for the Tail of the Dragon Let me know if you're planning to join in anywhere in between so we can keep an eye out for you.
