Considering Jim Inglese Webers
I have a mild 302 (280 RWHP) with Holley 670 Street Avenger on a airgap manifold, GT40X heads and a 303e hydr roller cam in BDR. The motor just got to 5000 miles. I am considering adding 8 stack webers from Jim Ingleses.
Is this overkill for a mild 302? It currently is very streetable now with no problems. I have read a lot of the posts regarding Weber tuning issues  and am concerned I am asking for a lot of headaches. But there is no denying the coolness factor! I really don't have the time to spend on continuous tuning but am willing to pay for a good tuner/installer. I am located in the Dallas area. Thanks. |
I have always run multiple carbs when I had my old car. In the same car using my 428 I ran a 2x4 set up followed by a 6x2 setup then a stack FI system. In my opinion, if you don't have the time to learn the tuning don't do it unless you have a very good friend to help you or really deep pockets.
Nothing worse than wanting to take a Cobra cruise with your buddies and realize that for some unknown reason, the tuning on one or more carbs is messed up and you don't know how to fix it and you can't get it to the shop in time to make the run. I know it had me do a quick crash course on how to tune the carbs. I am by no means an expert but got to the point that I could make it run under most circumstances. I'm lucky that I do have a good friend that I would consider an expert that I could call when I got in over my head. I'm thinking of doing webers on my next car and have already started reading things to try and get a baseline of knowledge on their tuning. The plan is have the system dialed in by someone in the know and then do my best to maintain and do fine adjustments. After a bit more study, I'll have to make the call as to wheather I can do that or not. Good luck with whatever you decide. Just one man's opinion |
If you order your webers from Jim he will have them jetted very close to what you need for your particular motor.
If you haven't done webers before, study up on them to make sure that's what you want. If you have issues after it's installed, Jim will walk you thru them. They are simple carbs and easy to work on. |
If you go with Jim, you should be fine. Once they are tuned, they stay tuned. Only issue I'm having is a little backfiring when lifting the throttle, probably caused by a small air leak in the slip-joint where the headers connect to the sidepipes. Working on tightening that up.
Otherwise, perfect manners in traffic and a beast when you stomp on it. Fantastic exhaust note. |
