Float Bowl Baffles
Just curious if anyone has tried this trick. Seems to be pretty common with the Porsche 911 crowd.
|
With Webers? Got pictures??
|
The reason it is popular with the 911 owners is the Weber IDA-3C has the main and idle jets on the side of the float bowl not in the bottom centre of the bowl like an IDA, IDF or DCOE.
The fuel could run away and expose the main jets in a 3C, but that condition is unlikely to happen with an IDA, IDF or DCOE. The jets in the performance 2 barrels are centred in the float bowl for the reason of constant fuel level in the main well regardless of cornering forces. Also the reason for the shape of the float. |
Gaz, thank you. Another trick they seem to employ is "anti percolation holes" in the top cover. Is this for the same reason? Can it be employed on a dual throat ida? Just curious.

Here's a link about Anti-percolation modification on IDA 3C carbs.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...ification.html The only benefit would be the bowl is directly vented to the throats of the carb, which is technically correct if the carb has individual filter screens or filter socks. The bowl is normally vented to atmosphere which could be unfiltered air in some installations. Any carb that is vented only to atmosphere could benefit from this sort of modification. |
I IDA 3C is used primarily on air cooled Porche 6 cyl engines which runs a lot hotter than our water cooled V8's, and transfer more heat into the carb body.
One modification used on 2BBL IDA's used by the VW guys that drag race is to enlarge the float bowl capacity by machining the wall inside the carb body and allowing fuel into a void that is normally unused. |
