Webers & Access to Distributor hold down
On a "Real" Smallblock (8.2 deck) with the dual water outlet manifold it seems very difficult to access the hold down bolt. I am using the MSD hold down. I thinned the 5/16" hex head bolt to about half the original thickness. I am also using a modified and equally thinned distributor wrench (remember those?) to gain access. It is difficult at best. What say the rest of you. Those with 351 based engines, this does not apply to you.

tis a *****! ,i cut a wrench in half and bent it 90 degrees.
still a knuckle duster. we have all just realised the folly of the original fuel logs welded to the water intake which pre heat the fuel to a comfortable 160 degrees on a cool day. i just drilled out the uprights with two cooling holes and got it down to 75 degrees ...good tip!!!!!!! |
Yep, eliminate the heat path.

I used an Allen head bolt and tweaked a wrench. It works but it’s nothing to celebrate.
Also opened up the uprights on the fuel log as Paul suggests, my temps went from 150s down to 130s. Still love these four little carbs though…. they look and sound amazing! :cool: |
Yes, hot fuel=no go. Did the same a while back. Rick, I don't have a problem accessing my hold down bolt, also MSD(i think). Don't we have the same distributor & y-manifold? Maybe it's the early years of CHUBBY ownership that have me praising the front mount:D...
I bought this set a while back. Great wrenches. As it turns out, I just have a chrome hold down, nothing special, but I have a Lawson Bolt with tall head. On the way to Monterey right now. I do not have clearance between the hose and the upper surface of the hold down. I cannot get a wrench on the flats of the bolt head. Have to set imong and tighten the hold down without the hose on the nipple. Pain in the a**.

I see, your cooling connections must be lower on the manifold. That is a pain!
