set the record straight
thought some of you guys with big balls, errr, I mean big blocks might be willing to set the record straight. There's some discussion going on over on the Vintage Mustang Forum about Weber carbs, and one guy is saying they can't be made to work right on a big block ?

At their limit?
They must have big engines if 4 Gene Berg 58 - 60mm IDAs with 56mm venturis won't satisfy their thirst. |

Well, Carroll got them to work in the 60s so I say they are full of bologna! I do know Webers are difficult to set up in general though.

everybody on the Mustang forum likes to pitch their opinion, regardless of lack of direct Weber experience. About 15 different posters, but only me and another guy are currently running Webers on our cars.

I'm running a very healthy 393 SB (Rev limit 7400 rpm), and I'm using lowly 48s (with slightly larger venturis, making 600 bhp). I imagine that my carbs flow enough for an average 427 as is. As pointed out, there are much larger venturis available, so until you're getting into truely huge cubic inches, webers should work on a BB. And the sound, oh, the glorious sound! |
I've heard that, as well. Seems, in theory, that they would, though. Looks as if some people have made them work. Anyone try & fail?
