MSD Distributor
Before I put the webers on my car I had a Holley and an MSD with vac advance. the folks at top end told me that I could run the MSD with mechanical advance too just by disconnecting the vaccuum. Is this true? do I need to change any of the springs in the distributor??

The distributor you have has both vacuum and mechanical advances. You can disconnect the the vacuum, and the mechanical will still work. I'm not sure what Webers like as far as an advance rate, but most 4 bbl equipped Fords like a fast rate that is all in by about 36º total. For an MSD distributor, that usually takes one light spring and one medium spring. Most MSD distributors are shipped with a small parts baggie that has an assortment of small parts including advance springs. John

you can remove the advance unit from some MSD dist. for a cleaner look. My MSD dist came with a plate for covering the "gap" left by the advance unit removal. It was simple to remove, and runs fine without it. Of couse I don't have the benefits of vacuum advance, but my car didn't come with it anyway.
