Rick,
beautiful engine. Is the Cobra manifold lower than the standard water outlet manifold? how did you solve the thermostat issue?

Rick Parker 09-18-2008 01:25 AM

With this style of manifold with the two outlets, the RH outlet comes out in such a way that with the early front cover and aluminum water pump (W/O back plate) it requires the nipple on the water pump that was the bypass from the pump into the thermostat housing (on the other manifold) to be cut off and plugged. The remaining nipple is connected to the Harrison surge tank and effectively forms the fill point for the cooling system. I am still attempting (on paper) to create a fool proof bypass that will allow quicker warmups, similar to manifolds with a conventional thermostat housing, I been beating this drum for months..........
I think what I have settled upon is to put a nipple (tidy welding) somewhere else on the perimiter of the water pump and then run a 5/8" hose into the bottom of the crossover (through another nipple yet to be attached) that connects the two outlets from the manifold. The area that I have to create this engineering miricle within is quite confined. This should effectively allow coolant to recirculate through the pump and block and allow a quick warm up. The themostat is housed within the upper hose. Stay tuned..................
