blew my fuel pump.. Mechanical or electric
 
I blew my fuel pump this morning.. I took it off the motor and the insides were trashed. Should I replace it with an electric or put a new mechanical in there? I hear an electric makes the webers easier to tune.

Personally, I like an electric fuel pump.

I'm starting to lean that way. The vendor I got my webers from recommends the Carter P4070 for the webers. I wonder how noisy it is....

The set up on my '69 Mustang is a stock type fuel tank fitted with a sump kit. Custom fabricated Vent tube allows the car to be rolled without losing fuel. (basically we made the stock tank into a fuel cell) Not planning on a roll but like to be prepared. Electric pump in the rear to push the fuel rather then pull it to the carbs. 1/2" line feeds twin 750 Holleys. I'm not familiar with the Carter P4070. When I have questions like that I call the techs at Summit. They deal with a multitude of manufacturers & can answer questions like that.

If you go with an electric, invest in an inertia type cut off switch...shuts fuel off if you roll or get hit...easy to reset.

I´m not a real fan of electric pumps - they tend to fail at the worst of times. :mad:

I treated my org. Carter X- Pump to a rebuild kit many years back - still working great. :D

I also like the mecanicals, because the higher the rpm the more volume they deliver.

Any good mecanical Fuel pump should be supply the necesary volume - unless you are all out drag racing.

With Webers a pressure regulator should be considered a must.
