Weber IDA alternatives: IDFs, Berg IDAs, others?

While browsing the web, I have seen certain Weber dealers strongly endorse the IDFs over the IDAs in anything other than an all-out racing engine, apparently because the IDFs have a more forgiving progression circuit. The same is said to be true of the Berg IDAs. I called the aforementioned Weber dealers, asking for more details, but was simply told that there is no give-up in performance with the IDFs at the top-end, that the IDFs are "easier to tune", and that the transition from idle to main is much smoother than the IDAs. In other words, the only reason to choose the IDAs is nostalgia. Does anyone here have some firsthand experience to share on this topic?

One site suggested that the Berg IDAs combined the best of the IDFs and IDAs, although when speaking with Berg it was clear that they had very little V-8 experience (Berg specializes in VW parts). Any insight available on how Berg IDAs have performed, or might perform, on a small block?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Great question. Any comments out there? I'm reading up on Webers and this sounds like a basic first-decision. IDF or IDA and why.

For my application, a 408 stroker.

I went with the 48IDA setup for my 351 windsor block. Other than tuning I love having them on there. If you are ever in fairfield you are welcome to stop by and check them out.

Thanks for the offer.

Are you going to the Sonoma Classic this Sunday? If so, I'd like to check them out and have a chat.

I wanted to go but it's my wife's birthday so we are taking a weekend to Monterey.
