Headlight issue

Guys...my headlights went out on the way home from volo last sunday. when i turn on the swith i get just a flicker and they immediately go off. i can hear the breaker trip as lights flicker for that split second. i tried a new switch, new breaker and checked bulbs...none burned out...lights are not wired to a relay but run thru the 30 amp switch...original builder of the car used steering column from early 80's camaro so dimmer works from turn signal stock...could a bad dimmer switch in the column cause a problem like this?

any input will be welcomed.
Thanks.
Jerry

Run then through a relay.

Charles...thanks for the response...I was thinking that might be something I should do.

If they worked before, and don't now, then clearly there's a problemin the existing circuit. Adding a relay circuit isnt' going to fix your problem. You'll have to trace the circuit from one end to the other and find the problem. But I would start in the 31 year old steering column.

Thanks Bob...in the process of doing just that.
