We are considering joining the Mile Hi Cobra Club (MHCC) in the following event. The dates are June 17 through June 21. Meeting point is Golden CO. on the 17th. This means we would travel June 15 and 16 to be ready to go the 17th. Also return would be two days, so the trip back would be on June 22 and 23. I know this over laps the LCS, but we have always wanted to make the Colordo trip and this looks like a good year for us.

We would trailer the Cobra out and leave the tow truck and trailer at MHCC recommended site while we cruise with them.

Cruise Colorado Overview

2012 Mile Hi Cobra Club Cruise Colorado

Join us for the 9th annual Mile Hi Cobra Club Cruise Colorado. This year we will be staying in the northern half of Colorado.


We’ll start with a meandering drive to a new town for the Cruise – Steamboat Springs. We’ll be arriving just as the Rocky Mountain Mustang roundup is coming to a close. We’ll spend two nights in Steamboat with an optional drive on Monday.


Tuesday we head to Grand Junction for another two night stay. We’ll have an option day on Wednesday.


Thursday we’ll head over Grand Mesa on our way over Monarch Pass for a night in Salida.


Friday we’ll head back to Denver.

Just a little info you might want to find out how your engine is going to perform at that altitude Going from your start you will be at some times over 10000 ft just thought I bring that up

I thought you applied to attend , then they have a drawing to see who is invited, there was a limited space last time . I was going to attend a few years ago and I was invited but gas prices shot up and I figured it would cost over three thousand just for gas . It would be a great trip , good luck .

I'm local and have a Ford GT having sold the Cobra and would be interested too.

I have called the organizer and the current group is at 17 and can go to 25 cars. If more than that he said they could work something out. 25 is the limit for hotel rooms they have reserved in the MHCC name, I believe.

As far as my car, yes I will change the jets, but I am not looking to get peak racing performance, only better / smoother operation.

It would help the flatlanders if they would give the route and maximum altitudes. I brought mine up through 10500+' but never got it up over Trail Ridge at nearly 12000. It was the Roush DFI after the altitude table was fixed and at 10K+ it ran great. Carbs might struggle over the high points but we got through here with 60's cars without problems. Not gonna win a race but it will work.

Another beautiful trip that overlaps my college reunion. We have been talking about getting a trailer and new tow vehicle, so maybe next year. Colorado is beautiful and the weather should be perfect in June!

I guess I should chime in here, since I'm the guy "in charge" of this, although I use that term loosely. :)

We love having people from out of state join us for the Cruises. We have a group from Texas that comes back every year and a guy from Oregon that always posts some great pictures and videos. We try to stay off the beaten path as much as possible and you will be driving some roads that were tailor-made for Cobras.

We do have room for some more people. The only time we capped registrations was the trip where we stayed in Chama NM, because the hotel we stayed at only had 25 rooms and other lodging was scarce. We try to hold it to 25 cars just to keep everything from being a little overwhelming. Right now our agreements with the hotels are for 25 rooms, but that probably wouldn't be a problem as we are staying in some big hotels this year. The room discounts go away about May 15, so you would need to get your rooms booked before then. Cruise registration "closes" on May 15th, too. At least if you want the personalized "goodies" included with the trip. :D

As far as altitude, we'll range from a low of 4600 feet or so in Grand Junction to a high of 12,183 feet going through Rocky Mountain National Park. I would suggest that you talk to your favorite carb guy about any jetting changes you might need to make. We had a car from Ohio last year that dropped his jets a couple of sizes and didn't have any issues going over Independence Pass, which is 12,095 feet. Your mileage may vary. :)

If you can't make it this year, try to join us next year. We're not sure where we're going, but it will probably be either Taos NM -Durango or back to Moab, Utah for a few nights.

Al is the 'Trail Boss' and does an excellent job of it ;)

There's a group of us flatlanders that go every year, so you can tell the CO folks are a tolerant bunch:D. I've lost count, this might be 8 years?

Anyway, I rejetted one time and it was a waste, we all are carb'd and we leave things as is. You lose HP with altitude, but that's gonna happen anyway. We all have more than we really need, so you won't miss it.

It's always a great time, the wives enjoy it as much or more than us drivers. Oh, and the word here is adventure. You just never know.....

As someone who spent many a summer in the Rockies, I am SOOOOOO jealous!

Yeah, those of us who live here have to put up with it every day :)

I've made the trip 5 or 6 times and it's more than worth the effort to get there. I trailer my car in from Oregon and make the 1300 miles in two days (three if I want to loligag).
Al does a fantastic job putting the cruise together and I'm a strong advocate of making the Colorado trip part of your bucket list. Spectacular scenery and a really great bunch of people.
Don't forget to bring a camera and spare batteries.
