Engine Help!!

Hey Guys, I was hoping that I might get some input on recommended shops for services, or I can host some of you engine gurus at my house. I am not looking for basic services, oil changes, etc. I do those myself. But this is the first summer since I put the motor back in that I can really drive it. Had it out a couple of times and need help finding a shop or someone that can..

1. Help me make sure that my coolant system is working correctly. Car seems to run very hot 180d w/ fan running, seems like it is hotter under the hood then it should be.
2. Make sure the timing is set properly.
3. Help me figure out if I have an exhaust leak, car backfires excessively when de-accelerating. I know that this could be a result of the timing but I am not sure.

If anyone is available and can help me out I am more then happy to supply food and beverages, if not, can you tell me of a good shop that I could take it too? I am in the Jefferson Park/Edgebrook area.

I appreciate any help/advice you guys can give me.

Duh, I just saw Jeff's note regarding LRS. Guess I should look a little harder next time. :)

Did you ever get help for your engine problem??

I am no expert, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night. Ha

Your engine is overheating and you haven't checked the timing yet?

Work has gotten in the way the last two weeks and I haven't had a chance to do anything with it at all. Honestly, it is not really overheating it never gets about 180 unless I am at idle and then it may go to 210 and once moving it will drop back down. But after a drive if you pop the hood the heat is crazy, that maybe just the way it is, but having never seen another one except at shows I don't know. I have checked the timing and it seems to be ok, but I'm not sure.. I was unfortunately unable to stay at the holiday in express last night.

If the engine is overheating......getting hot at a stop , you need a beter radiator fan setup.....
180..190 is not hot.....it would be quite normal to run at 190 all day..with little spikes into 200 maybe..
A pressure radiator cap is there so that the engine can run hotter than water boiling point without losing any coolant, or boiling over.
Also then ....obviously the higher the cap pressure the higher the temp it will contain!!!

I had a big exhaust leak on the sidepipe flange where it connects to the header flange. Backfired alot, but it also put a ton of hot gases under hood. You almost couldn't touch the upper fender above that flange. A little orange RTV sealed it right up. Gaskets burn up too easy.
