Cobra cleaning

When washing the AC Cobra, what would be the better choices in soap and what type of cloth should I use so I do not scratch the paint? Also what would be the better choices in car waxes?

I buy cases of glass cleaner in the spray cans, spray it on and let it set for about a minute, the bugs and stuff come off easy plus, no streaks.

Use 100% American cotton towels to apply whatever polish (goes for paint, polished aluminum, chrome, etc.) you are working with. Use clean cotton towels to remove. There are plenty of good products to choose from--I use Zaino Bros.

Any good car soap..do not use dishwashing soap.

Ditto on the cotton towels.

Zaino!

I use Zaino on FFR2479K. I think I've only had to use water once or twice. Generally, it doesn't get that dirty on street use. I take my California car duster, wipe the car down, and use my Zaino spray detailer to clean the car.

After autox or open track days, I will take some Mothers' car soap and water, along with a soft mitten I got at a car show, and give it a gentle wash, then Zaino the car.

Does anyone have experience with Griot's Garage cleaning products?

dalola 04-07-2003 12:42 PM

For specific info: www.zainobros.com

I've had great results with all their products, and their service.

tommyboy 04-07-2003 05:54 PM

Thanks for all the good info. I printed out a Zainobros order form and will purchase a few items!

cdog 04-11-2003 09:22 AM

Tommy, there are some local Zaino distributors around Chicago. I think they are listed on the Zaino site, but if not do a google search: zaino+chicago

There's one guy in the Corvette club for sure...

Roscoe,

Don't you know Cranky uses the wind to clean his car? If high speed don't get the bugs off, nuthin will.

Baby diapers are the best towels. I use Pig Snot wax. Real popular among the Harley guys...it works well.

That Zaino Bros stuff looks awesome too, but it seems that I am gonna have to take a night course to learn how to use everything right

I and several of the people around here use Wet Paint on our cars. I have tried a lot of the other stuff and I like this best. It is easy, fast, and every time I go over the cars they just get a deeper look to the paint. I never touch any car of mine with any kind of soap. I can do the Cobra with Wet Paint in 20 minutes easy, And that stuff works on chrome, glass, I did my windshield and it is amazing at how the splattered bugs come right off. It will work an anything not pourus.

To wash a really grungy car, mix Ivory liquid dish soap in a bucket of water. Unlike other dish soaps, Ivory doesn't damage paint and it removes road grime, oily debri and other nasty stuff. Use a soft sponge to wash with, and a soft towel or chamois to dry.

For bugs and other things smashed things on leading edges, windshield, wings and visors, there's some great stuff for RV's available at Walmart designed for plexiglass cleaning and waxing. It is expensive--about $12 for a spray bottle. Can't remember the name, but I'll be back with it. I've used this product for years on my airplane with great results. Doesn't scratch plexiglass windows, applies a wax and does a great job of removing grass stains and bugs.

Are you thinking of Plexus?

That stuff is great for cleaning plexiglass and also Lexan....
