Cobra's at Meadowdale Raceway...Better Late Than Never..

Windy City Cobra Club Tailgate Party
Date:July 10/11 - 17/18 - 24/25 (??)

Meadowdale, near Chicago, was a major road course built in 1958. The hilly 3.27 mile course featured The Monza Wall, a steeply banked 180 degree turn that led to a 4,000 foot main straight. USAC, USRRC, TransAm, ARCA, AMA and club races were run there. It closed in 1969
www.meadowdaleraceway.homestead.com

Location:Meadowdale International Raceway Forest Preserve
The public gateway to Meadowdale Raceway is now about a half mile north of the old main gate. The Raceway Woods nature preserve entrance is located on IL Hwy 31, about 4 miles north of the I-90 tollway, about 1.75 miles north of IL Hwy 72. The entrance is on the west side of the highway.
There is parking for about 20 cars, a shelter and picnic table and a modular restroom. Trails at the back of the picnic area lead to the track

Details as they develop.......Blas

Arcenio-
Great work on putting the schedule together. Now we all can see where the holes are to fill in. I agree completely on having some sort of picnic in July/August.
Blas-
That Meadowdale idea sounds cool. Is there a website to find out more about it? I'd like to go.

Just a few suggestions-
Elmhurst dustoff is May 19th
Elmhurst Ford night is June 2nd
Elmhurst Replicar is June 9th
Route 66 car show Sept. 24-26
I'm also in favor of a picnic in July and/or a cruise to Geneva.

Blas- Don't forget to send out the car show nights.

As far as the 4th of July goes we've (the club) been invited to participate in a parade. Go to the thread"Chicagoland Cobra Owners Wanted" and get the details.

Agreed. We just have to figure out if someone wants to host one, or go to a forest preserve, or maybe one of the beaches on the lake.

Erik,
It almost sounded as if you wanted to volunteer to host one.
Just trying to help you...

Hey all,
Has anyone ever considered driving up to Elkhart Lake Wisconsin to see the vintage races? As I recall it is about a 150 mile drive and is usually is scheduled for mid July.
Remember these cars are the real thing - not replicas.
I was there last about 2 years ago - there were many Cobras, including an orginal Dayton Coup and a couple of GT-40's. The races go pretty much all week-end long - with lots of different classes.
As I recall, there was a lunch break which allowed time for anyone that wanted to pay the fee a chance to get on the track. The spectators are allowed into the pit areas to come and go as they please. It is a great opertunity to get a close-up look at some very nice and historic cars.
Anyway - it's just a thought if we are looking for a July event

The Brian Redman Vintage Car Races at Road America is absolutely fantastic. I go every year and it just so happens to be my wifes favorite event. The races are held July 14-18. Personally, I think the best way to handle the races is to show up at the track early Friday evening around 5:00 or an hour earlier. You can see some of the cars running the track then head to downtown Elkhart Lake to catch the Vintage car parade (all the race cars are police escorted to downtown). All the vintage cars park downtown and becomes a real nice vintage car show. Food and beverages are everywhere. Also in the downtown area, next to the lake, there is a car auction. Friday night you can stroll through and view all the vehicles. Saturday night they have the auction. Lots of good stuff !! Saturday is the day to spend all day at the races. It is the ultimate car show. The paddocks are available for everyone to walk through and see the cars, talk to the drivers and mechanics, very helpful. You won't believe all the cool old and historic race cars, foriegn and domestic, and then watch them run at speed on the track. Sunday they have the main event and additional races. I tend to leave by noon and lately don't even go to the track for Sunday's races. A full day of watching on Saturday seems to be enough for me. If and when you go whats nice is Road America is big and has a park like setting. Lots of trees and hills. You can drive your own car around the perimeter road that provides access to many areas along the track. Pull off into the grass under a shady tree. Spread out the picnic blankets, chairs, coolers and food and you have a great party spot. Bring a bicycle and you can cover all areas of the track quick and easy.

Tom.

Hi everyone,

I recommend scheduling the Victor Ford, Wauconda Illinois, car show to the WCCC Summer schedule. It's a great family event with a live band, free hot dogs, pop and t-shirt; this year's event is scheduled for Sunday July 18th from 9:00AM until 1:00PM. I've attended the last three years, great time, and have attached their e-mail address for your perusal

http://www.victorford.com/events.htm

One caveat, if you plan to attend… arrive early. This event is very popular and spaces quickly fill up.

Not a problem...

Suggest we provide Victor Ford with the number of WCCC cars and people attending. I'll issue a WCCC club memeber e-mail. Let's discuss over breakfast tomorrow.

Hey Blas do you have a head count on the Volo show as yet?

I know you were hoping to get some of us there
