engine pre oiler
What do you guys think about this? I was thinking of hooking up an electric pump between an oil line that goes from the oil cooler to the oil filter in order to pre lube the engine before start-ups. I figure a differential pump should do the trick. Will this setup work? ??? :confused:

Sal Gerace Sal I use my accump as a pre luber. Use an relay for the power to control the soleiod on and off. Turn on before start and check for pressure. Get motor running and let fill tank. shut off and you are ready for your next start. This also work great on autocrousing, gives you next oil on long turns pulling g's. Jegs and summit sell it. I have one on my car, under the rightside bolted to the framerail. Rick Lake

Why not just put in a seperate switch to kill the ignition while you crank over the engine until oil pressure builds. Starter in not turning hundreds of RPM's and engine gets some good oil pressure before starting?

Either the Accusump or an oil pump made for the specific purpose of pre-lubing the engine should do the trick. Information on the Accusump is fairly easy to find while the actual pumps take a little more digging. Try http://www.espperformance.com for a pump type system (pick the pre-luber option). From my research this looks like one of the better units. Their turbocharger system even allows the pump to keep circualting oil for a period of time after the engine is shut down to prevent coking of the oil on hot parts. The idea of the pre-lubing rather than just turning the enigine over without ignition is to get oil on the parts "before" they start to rub against eachother. I know that turning the engine over with just the started doesn't turn it that fast but it's still turning it and bare metal contact doesn't take all that much to wear. Both the Accusump and the pre-lube pumps eliminate this and, relatively speaking, they are not that expensive and simple in their operation which translates to minimum problems after they're installed.
