What does Byron require for safety equipment, inspections ect? I would like to go and make a couple of test runs down the track. Can any of you veterans help me out? If it's not to involved I plan to make the trip.

Ron

Ron,

They're pretty liberal. You do need a long sleeve jacket, a helmet, shoes or boots and probably glasses or a face shield. You should have gloves and wrist restraints but I've never seen them check for either of these. I don't think I've ever seen a Cobra there without a roll bar so that might be an issue if you don't have one. Most of the cars run in the 12's, with a few runs in the high 11's and a few in the 13's. I think they might get a lot more picky for cars running in the 10's. I've never had 'em look in the trunk or under the hood that I recall.

Arcenio,
There is a 50/50 that I will be out of town. If not I will go for sure. I do not know that I would want to embarrass myself and actuall try to race my car. Heck, I can't even spin the tires - so I am sure I would be 'eating everyone's dust.'

OhBuoy 08-30-2004 09:43 AM

Rich, I can spin the tires finally, but that does not mean I am going anywhere fast! This would be my first drag run, and outside of spirited backroads driving, the first run of it's type on any car for me. I will be embarassing myself, so why shouldn't you!

Drag Day

Hello Gents,

Tom:
$25.00 race car / driver
$12.00 spectators

Guys don't get too hung up on teching at Byron.
As long as there is no major leaking, dangerous wires, tires etc.
You will be fine the tech guys there are cool.
I don't even take mine off the trailer.
If you are running something really, really fast, say (10 and under). Then that puts you in a hole diffeent class, and they take a close look.

But for our cars this is what they generally want at THIS TRACK.
(I emphasize THIS TRACK because they're all a little different)

Helmet with full face sheild
Long sleeve shirt, / NO shorts
lap belt 3 or 5 point preffered
Oh, and a car that runs. pretty simple!
All this info was good as of last time we went (in spring).

Ron:
If you can make it, please come.
It is the best way to find out just how fast your car really is,
and it is a blast!!! AND LEGAL TOO !!!
Where else can you blast offf to 120 mph and not worry about someone pulling out in front of you?

Rich, you don't go and... I'll hunt you down.
I'm not kidding, remember I know where you live!
I'll may be inclined to send "Da Boys" to pay you a "little visit"
(like maybe dull your fenders with dust and dirt)
and resort your priorities.

Sid where you at ???

Blas 08-30-2004 03:40 PM

Ciao Rich,
Don't a you forget...
...And if, by chance, an honest man like yourself should make enemies . . . then they would become my enemies. And then they would fear you...
You are under my protection...

Don Blassi....

OhBuoy 08-30-2004 05:33 PM

Uh oh, it sound like Blas might have revealed his previous identity prior to being put in the witness protection program. Chris, are you ready to step up to the plate on the WCCC advisory commitee when the FBI comes and sweeps Blas away!

Ron Peterson 08-30-2004 07:49 PM

Guys, count me in for the Byron drag day. This will be my first attempt to run a car down the strip. Should be good entertainment for all the club members as I fumble my way down the track.

See you all there.

Ron

OhBuoy 08-30-2004 08:28 PM

Looks like it is Ron, Rich and I fighting to pick up the rear of the pack, just in front of Marty!

RichMusson 08-31-2004 03:43 PM

Don Blassi,
You are a man of honor - and, with all respect; I truly appreciate respect your comments.
Arcenio,
The problem is this. Judy and I have family - a daughter, she is moving and requests our help. What can I do, she is family.
Tom,
Firgettaboutit!!
I'll tell you what; we both have 302's - 'little motors'...we should not be ashamed.
If by chance we are both at the drag strip - I will make a friendly wager - I will challenge your 302 Potatoe with my 302 EFI.
A small wager - just remember, no matter what half the 'vig' must go to Don Blassi.

Rich
By the way - I expect to beat the pants off of Marty.

CHRIS DAMSCH 08-31-2004 03:53 PM

Be careful Rich. I here Marty is full of surprizes.
I smell a challenge Marty.

EMK 09-01-2004 03:33 PM

Guys,
Did you seriously think I wasn't going?! I have been secretly spying on this post waiting for the right time to reply. I'M IN:D !!!!!!!!! I will not back down from any challenge at Byron. Win, lose or draw I will race each one of you...starting with Chris. Don't worry Chris, it will be painless. By the way, Byron is for participating, not watching....Blas, Frank. To the first timers, once you do it, you'll be addicted!
-Erik

CHRIS DAMSCH 09-01-2004 03:44 PM

Hey, How did I get sucked into this? I'm just a rookie. How many car length's are you going to give me Erik? Oh well maybe I'll borrow a pair of slicks from somebody.

Anyways, from what Arcenio says, as long as I know where third gear is I shouldn't have a problem with Erik. OUCH

EMK 09-01-2004 03:53 PM

Easy rookie:mad:

CHRIS DAMSCH 09-01-2004 04:05 PM

I know, I know, It was the trans fluid's fault. I've used that one too.

This should be an awsome time.

EMK 09-07-2004 04:14 PM

I emailed Bob Sutton, he's planning on going.

TurboVenom 09-10-2004 11:37 AM

Hey, I plan on it. I'll be at US41 on Saturday - Buick event - and will just have to make it to Byron on Sunday, so move over rover, let's let the ET contest begin...

WHAT ???

John,

Does this mean we are going to get to see the new Spyder in action at the track ?????

That alone would be worth the price of admission.:D

TurboVenom 09-10-2004 11:55 AM

Heh, you kiddin? It's still two weeks away, just like it was last year...two weeks away. Gee, I'm hoping I can still drive it this year before the snow gets in my way. You KNOW what it's like waiting, waiting, waiting.

So ol' slowpoke Cobra will just have to do.
