Last Ride of the Season

Sadly I took my cobra out for the last ride this season before winter storage. Considering it’s almost mid October, it was a fairly warm day, high 50's, and didn’t require a sweater or jacket. It was fun sliding through the gears, wind in my air, thumbs up from other drivers etc. one last time. There may be several drivable days until the first snow but driving a car as cool as a cobra wearing a leather jacket, gloves etc, is just not fun. We’re on the downside of the weather thermometer and for me the season is over. But I’m all ready counting the days until spring.

Badman.
I know how you feel. I'm trying to get one more ride before the end of the season. Hopefully the sun will be out on Sunday.

Gocats,
I would love to make the curse to Lake Cumberland, but I have been putting off too many outdoor projects. I hope to get a few rides in between "honey do's".
y'all have fun

Badman,

You are welcome to come out here around Christmas and go for a few drives. Dry sand and desert won't be quite as pretty as the snow and ice you are used to but it is warmer. :D

Sadly, I have to say I might get a few more drives in, but the 50 degree weather is nippy in a convertable.

I will be packing it up until spring ( may be do a few things over the winter as Brent was asking about ).

TimG427 10-15-2004 07:50 AM

We're just getting into the great driving season here. Nearly impossible to drive an unairconditioned car in Austin in summer unless you go out in the morning.

Blas 10-15-2004 08:33 AM

Hey TimG427,
I saw one of the other Hi-Tech Aulminum Cobra's the other day.
I got a copy of the sales brochure from him if your interested.
1 page - 2 sides.
We also have a fiberglass Hi-Tech in the club.
What's the story on Hi-Tech?
How many Alum's did they build? 3 or 4 maybe ?
I'll say one thing about them, they sure sit right...
Very similar to an ERA....in stance...
Send me a PM if you interested in a copy...

TimG427 10-15-2004 08:54 AM

Thanks, I'm looking at one of their brochures now. They also had a great full page add in Vintage Motorsport Magazine, the picture is of my car from a platform looking down at the car from about 10 feet.
I would imagine that your estimate of a few aluminum cars is correct. Number 98 is the only aluminum 427 replica I know of, though. Hi-Tech built some of the best cars out there, I don't know how good they were on the business side of things.
I compare them to D & D Grand Sports, Dean built some of the best GS replicas to ever hit the streets.

Roger,

I would love jump in my cobra and race West to California for a Christmas day cruise with you but family objections limit my overnight venues. I enjoy warm sunny days, blue skies and cruising with friends. (It’s my Sicilian blood). It must be great to dive a cobra year round and I’m big time envious.

We definitely have four-season weather in the Midwest. Today is a typical October day, cloudy, blustery winds with sporadic rain showers. But there is good and bad news in the weather forecast…tomorrow should be sunny, dry with a high temperature in the mid 50”s. The bad new is that tomorrow's weather is a brief respite and it’s down hill from now until April. Snow, below freezing temperature, icy roads etc. are around the corner. I'll think of you driving with the top down with while shoveling snow.

Say it isn't so----
The car can't be put away for the season.
Not already----Say it isn't so.

Rich,

Wish it wasn't true but my car is in storage until April. I really hated to do it but Midwest October weather is not conducive top down driving at any speed. Today’s a perfect example, with a sweltering high 48-degree temperature and gusty winds equating to a 38-degree wind chill. Its days like this that I want to move to the Southwest because we all know it will get much, much worse. Two months from now this will seem like a heat wave…and that’s a very sad statement.

Eat your hearts out... It was 96 degrees here in California this week...

TerrysSPF 10-17-2004 11:13 AM

Say it ain's so!!! Don't put the car away yet! I'm still hoping for an Indian Summer.........but not holding my breath. Is it just me or does it seem that we no longer have a "spring" or a "fall" season here anymore. The past few years in Illinois, it seem to go from summer to winter.....with very little "fall" in between. I had dreams of driving the Cobra around and seeing the fall colors (didn't own the car until November last year). I went out today and it was a bit nippy. Still fun though. The heater in my car works pretty good!;)

casaleenie 10-17-2004 12:07 PM

Terry,

We've got some great weather still ahead of us... Just checked the weather and it looks like we'll get some Indian Summer and Chicago is part of that forcast...
