want to buy a cobra

this is the same post I just posted in All Cobra Talk, just thought I'd make sure the local guys see it.

I'm looking to purchase a cobra and wanted to throw this out there before I just build (have one built). If I don't find one in the next few days, I'll just buy a new SPF chasis, and figure it out.

Of course I've checked the "cobras for sale" section of this site and Cobracountry.com, I've also looked at ebay and the Dupont registry.....no dice. I'm sure if I waited longer something would turn up, but I'm ready now.

So with all of that, here is what I'm looking for:

Chasis: probably a Superformance, I'm open to others like Kirkham or ERA, but after shopping for the past few months I think SPF is the way to go for my needs. I'm not knowledgable enough and not set up to build it myself.

Color: Royal blue with white stripes and Rondals and a rookie stripe is exactly what I'm looking for. I'm not totally inflexable on this, but it's really what I'm leaning toward.

Drivetrain: I'm flexable here too, but I want to car to be super fast.....that's pretty much the point of the car to me. I've searched the site for a good argument about the small block vs. big block but everyone always says that there are too many opinions on it or that they don't want to touch this topic. But nobody has been able to explain if one is truely faster than the other and why (the car would be used mainly on the street but also on the track). I guess just want a rediculous 0-60 mph and a capable track car, that is still streetable.

I'd prefer 17" PSE rimms, but the rest of this stuff is easliy changable.

I'd like super low miles and a very new car in general, as I don't want to buy someone else's headaches.

my budget is in line with what it would cost me to build a new one...so 60k ish. the idea behind buying a used car is that I get a deal though.

I'm sure that I left some obvious stuff out, so send me a message if you think you might have a car that fits and we can talk about it.

Thanks.

Noel,

Congratulations on your D&M cobra purchase! They are a reputable metropolitan Chicago Superformance dealer with an extensive selection of cars. (I know because I purchased my car from D&M two years ago and have never had a problem or complaint.)

So, tell us about your car. What color and stripe combination did you purchase? What is your engine plans, i.e. big or small block? When do you think you’ll have it on the road?

Look in my gallery if you want to see a Royal Blue SPF.

I'll have the car in about two weeks, I'll definately post pics when I get it! It's just the normal royal blue with white stripes, just like Goober's car.

Still have not made my final engine choice, leaning toward a BB 514ci....thoughts?

Noel,

Congrats!!! Glad to see another cobra owner in the area. You are going to love our events! Make sure when you join the club that the Board gets you the keys to the condo!

On a more important note. You have been talking BB for a while. I say go for it! Get the BB!!! I don't know crap about them so I recommend you contact Gary D. who is a member of the club. Also contact Rick P. He has a 460 in an FFR. They would give you the most info from local owners.

PICTURES? – We don’t want to see no stinkin pictures!
We want to see the real thing.
Will you have it in time to bring it to Stats on May 7th? Heck with all that engine you should be able to win the burn out contest. If you decide to go I'll ride out with you.

Noel,

Congrats on your purchase. I just picked up a Red and White B&B a couple months ago and love the car.

I have the 514 Ford crate motor and don't get me wrong...it's more power than you could ever need...but she'll overheat when I sit in traffic, and clearance around the motor is tuff. I can't get to one spark plug without removing the valve cover. Also, I have to change my intake manifold to get enough room to put an air cleaner on top of my carburator.

Gonna have a radiator made to hopefully solve my cooling problems, and I plan on doing the intake swap in the next couple of weeks...this thing called "work" keeps getting in the way.

But even with those issues, I still love the car....even when it's up on jack stands...lol

Raditor place

I did some research and found a place called Rex Radiators on Lake and Racine here in the city. I talked to one of the guys over there and they said that if I brought in the rad, they would see what they could do. They said that he might be able to add another row, and it would cost around $250. I plan on taking out the rad this week sometime and bringing it over to them.

If it doesnt work out I am gonna try some of those other places.

Thanks Guys!

Ever
