Road America Vintage Races (Brain Redman Challenge)
The Brian Redman Challenge- aka: ‘Vintage Races’ are an annual event at the Road America Race Track. This year it will be the weekend of July 15 to 17.
For those of you that have never been – it is a fantastic event. It generally attracts some of the finest vintage racing machines in the area. Visitors are allowed to roam the paddock area and get up close to the cars. I plan on driving up on Saturday morning July 16 and returning that same day. Road America in located in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin; straight west of Sheboygan. It’s approximately 150 miles north of Chicago – good highways all the way. Actually, a very nice ride. If anyone is interested we will meet at 8:00am at the McDonalds at 94 & Route 132. That is Gurnee Mills exit just east of 94 and just north of Great America. If anyone wants more information they can visit the Road America web cite www.roadamerica.com Hope to see y’all there, Rich Musson |
I'm planning on going Friday maybe Saturday! The Friday car show downtown is worth the trip !! I only live 45 minutes away. Jim

This is indeed a spectacular event for anyone interested in cars, and there is enough to see and do that the girlfriends, wives and kids enjoy it also, not just car guys.
The Grand Marshalls this year are Phil Hill and mario Andretti. Don't forget the concours in town on Friday and Saturday evenings either ! Friday features race cars, while Saturday features street cars and a large car auction as well. Great food, and great fun ! I have had season tickets to Road America for several years, but this event is by far the best of the year there, and usually the high point of my summer. I have many pictures from past years on my web site and my CC gallery http://public.fotki.com/YetiMan/road_america_four/ |
I will also be at RA for the Vintage Races. Have been for the last few years. My wife and friends head up on Friday so we can be in downtown Elkhart Lake by 5:30pm for the parade of race cars. Lots of fun. On Saturday we get to the track early and set up a picnic area just after turn 3 before the Sargento bridge. From there we can walk or ride our bikes to any point of the track, walk to the paddocks or just hang out under the trees at our picnic area.
This is Road America's 50th anniversary so turnout should be big ! Anyone from WCCC heading up should all meet at our location. |
Rich,
I'll be there on Saturday morning. Gurnee is not to far out of the way so I might be able to meet you there on my way up. Ill let you know when we closer to the date. jb |

I will meet you in Gurnee at 8:00 on Saturday morning. Call me if your plans change. Anyone else gonna be there? Tommyboy, Turn three sounds good. I'll be there with the Cobra early but my Wife, mini van, canopy and grill wont make it until lunch time. I'll have my cell. 847 877 7225. Jim |
I'll drop you an email... I generally hang out with a group of people on the inside of turn 6, but I have a paddock parking pass and several friends who are running this weekend (The red GT40, #6 (or some varient of 6) and the maroon McKee Can Am car #67).
I also tend to get around the track a lot taking pictures. I should have my Cobra up the whole weekend unless weather changes (beige Cobra shown in my gallery). |
BRIC Vintage Races crash
Does anyone know the history of Cobra #25 that was hit hard at the begining of the race?
See pics at: http://www.pbase.com/atrltd/bric2005 |
I heard the driver was the original owner? Karl Schiffmayer of Barrington Hills. IL. Too bad! Lucky there were no serious injuries.

What happened to you? We looked for you once we got into the track and were never able to locate you? Hope you enjoyed yourself. Rich |
Rich,
I ended up between 5 and 6 all weekend. I looked around but never found you guys. We ended up staying all weekend. My wife also grew up with the Mckee's so we hung out with them in the CanAm section. The #17 Mckee won his class but Yetmans buddy never got his #67 Mckee running right and missed the race. |
