Woodward Cruise
Anyone going to the Woodward Cruise? Has anyone been there before? Any info would be nice. Thanks
Bill |
Send me an email (wzzard@alltel.net) with your phone number and I'll do what I can for you. I grew up on Woodward in the sixties and remember well where the cruise gets it roots. I've been to two, one with the cobra and one without. Lots to see, I mean lots.
Right now I'm 50/50 for taking the car again but will probably go regardless. I also pass right through Cincinnatti on the way up. |
Do you have the dates of the cruise -- I wonder if motels are still available.
Mike |
Always the 3rd Saturday of Aug although festivities run the week prior. I have family in the area so don't know much about the motel/hotel situation. I would guess though it might be tough at this date since there'll be 2 million people there (north or south (that southern for plus or minus)) and in excess of 30,000 cars. Don't quote me on the numbers but I'm sure I'm close. It IS the BIGGEST CRUISE-IN on the planet.

Thank's for the information -- I've always wanted to go up -- it isn't to far from here --
If you go enjoy yourself -- I know Superformance has a group going -- |
One way to enjoy the party is to hook up with a group. I did with the Great Lakes Club in 2003 and attended several of their activities and met some great (pun intended) Cobra Owners. There were some costs involved because the cities charge for parking as a means to raise funds but reasonable. The negative to this was that I felt limited to about a 2 block radius and the Cruise is 16 miles long.
Last year I went and we would cruise a little until we saw something interesting, park, and then move on again. Parking can be fun of course but not bad on the off streets. You might have to walk a block or two. This year, my brother and I want to make the entire 16 mi trip in the Cobra if my cooling issues are acceptable/fixed. He's 6'5" and says being cramped up in a car that small smelling the fumes, listenig to the loud engine, with the sun beating down on his bald head and dealing with the heat is something he doesn't want to miss. Me neither. If you can get copies of the local papers, or visit woodwarddreamcruise.com for info. Also google "woodward dream cruise" and you'll find a number of sites with pics from last year and info about this year's event. If you go, you won't regret it and you'll be back because you can't get it all in in one trip. |
I live a short distance from woodward, cruised back in the 70s and had a blast for ten years. Back then the cops gave tickets for parking your car. This may be hard to understand, but the street wasn't lined with cars.
Now it is a huge cruise. Be forwarned, if you can not sit for long periods of time in your car, do not drive the cruise. It takes about 45 minutes to go a mile and if you have a car that over heats if it sits for a long time, it will over heat. |
The biggest thing is that unless you know someone with a bussiness and can purchase a parking spot you are extremely off the main cruise area of 11-15 Mile roads. Most spots now are getting to the range of a c-note which does not make it fun. Also it is getting so over run by the Corporations that it makes finding a spot even harder. And the road is getting more and more conjested by the mom and pop minivans and crap that should not be there that it is very hard in most case to go one mile in about a half an hour at most.
Here is the link http://www.woodwarddreamcruise.com/ Don't get me wrong though, it is incredible and where else can you see 25k cars and 1.7 million people in one place. Todd |
A number of the OCC gang is heading up there. Kump, Frink and Foresteri with some of the SCOF group. Mike, give the a call.....

Hi Blittleton, I've been to all of the Woodward Dreamcruise's since "96" and have tried all the spots from 8 Mile Rd to Pontiac, there are still places north of Birmingham that will give open cruising and areas for 2 block racing around Square Lake Rd. AS for Lodging try the Marriot on CenterPoint Dr its only about a 1/4 of a mile off Woodward and easyon easyoff and I pay only $84.00 per night for Thurs-Fri-Sat made in advance. GOOD times by all who attend!!!!

Seriously, if anyone is interested in going to the cruise, let me know
john@casperselectronics.com I'll be there, with the GLCC club which rents parking spots ($55) on Hazel St. in Birmingham. As I understand it, there are still a few spaces left so if you're going, contact Terry@motorcity-cobra.com to reserve the space. It's a real trip! There will be at least 75 Cobras there on Hazel St. as they have every year. It's unbeliveable, you just gotta go. -John |
The Woodward Dream Cruise is on Aug. 19.

Thanks for all who gave info, I had a nice chat with someone on the phone. I was delivering a car and on the road when a gentleman called me, about the cruise. I'm the worst when it comes to names, but he mentioned Pontiac MI was a good place to stay. I will most likely try to make this event. What I understand it has a lot to offer.
Rick, are you going? It is always a pleasure in meeting up with you. Are you bringing the Takillya??!! It is always fun to hook up the OCC. That Patrone was really tastey. What do you say!!! Bill |
I did the GLCC thing on Hazel street in 2003 and it's a blast. Great club with fantastic people. Want to do something different this year but will definitely stop in and see the snakes.
Do you know if they'll be doing the cruise in mass on Saturday morning? It got canceled the year I was there because of parking issues. (Leaving and coming back could loose your spot) Let me tell you, the thought of 75 Cobras cruisin' together makes my spine tingle. I'm not sure the asphalt and concrete can stand the rumble. |
