Clutch Bleeding - Big Block SPF
Anyone ever do this? My clutch is not fully disengaging (just barely) and I think it needs to be bled...It's been getting worse and worse for the past two months.
I can drive the car, but barely. It's probably 50 pushes away from hittin the level where it won't be disengaging enough to get it back into 1st at lights. If you know how to bleed it and would like to help, I'll bring it by and we can do it. OR if you wanna come by and help me out, that would also be great! :D PS This sucks, as I wanted to go to the event this weekend. |

Sounds like this http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/shop-talk/55102-clutch-adjustment.html all over again. Sorry you couldn't make it yesterday. We had a great time: beautiful scenery, perfect weather, plenty of dogs 'n' burgers, and nobody got left behind. :D Check out that thread and see if you don't think that's your problem. It's easy to remedy but with your BIG BLOCK, you'll have to do it all from below. With my small block, I was able to do all the work from above. ;) Bleeding the clutch is easy, too. You'll bleed the master cylinder from above with (as I recall) a 10mm wrench, working up underneath the left front fender but I think there's a way to take out a panel for easier access. Six of one, half dozen of the other, as far as I'm concerned. For the slave cylinder, you'll need to get under the car. Give me a call or email if you need more info. Lowell |

The need to get under is just another reason to have access to a good rack; but I digress. From what I have seen I think Lowell is 100% correct. The issue may well be the need to adjust the throw by some type of a threaded rod as opposed to bleeding the hydraulics. That said, I do have access to a good rack and I also have a lift in my garage. You are welcome to come by and use the lift. It does require you driving into the city – my schedule is not great but not bad either. Drop me a line if you are interested. Rich |
Guys, I adjusted the rod. That helped for about 20 mins, then the clutch went soft again.
I bled the clutch system (at the slave) and that seemed to firm up the pedal. Then, I cranked on the rod adjustment, moving the nut toward the end of the rod. It seems OK now. Do you think I may need a clutch soon? Or perhaps new master/slave cylinders? I don't wanna get stuck somewhere.... |
make sure that before you adjust the rod ,theat the rod is pushed all the way into the slave.IE: push the piston all the way in and then adjust.
