How far is Earlville from Elburn? Will you be there all weekend? Lowell |

Oh...yeah...Go to Dubuque and turn left! Actually, the drive north up Rt. 84 along the east side of the Mississippi River to Galena is beautiful. That's the way I'd go if I weren't in a hurry.
For any of you guys who wanted to come out from Chicago, it would be about 2 hours on the Interstate (I-88 to I-80W) then take the exit for Rt. 84 and head north. You'd be able to see the starting line of Cordova Dragway just north of the town of Cordova. Probably 3 to 3-1/2 hours total driving, as the traffic through the little river towns doesn't move very fast. Lowell |
Lowel
We are leaving Elburn at 8am Friday to arrive at the track around noon---should get two runs in Friday and possibly another Sat morning with eliminations Sat pm--- The engine has the crank thrust clearance opened up, fresh hone and rings , new set of rods ( 30 runs on the old ones, good for about 40) and of course new bearings and valves lapped, torque converter has had some more exhaust holes to let the oil out easier, hopefully will cut down on the ballooning a little Jerry |
Jerry,
Sounds great. I'm going to try to make it up there sometime over the weekend if the weather is decent. Is Corey driving? Thanks, Lowell |
Lowell
No Corey isn't driving---the car belongs to a guy south of town named Nick Pan(something Greek) we met him thru aone of our kart customers---we machined a block for him last year and have been doing some titanium welding on things like his wheelie bars, exhaust headers, etc. And we just honed the block to freshen it up while it was down for crankshaft thrust repair. engine makes 1379hp at 9700 rpm ---it goes thru the lights at a little over 10200, but shows a lot of slippage in the trans/converter, over a 1000rpm different than driveshaft rpm. Car goes 7.08 , record is 7.00 and we want lower record to the Sixes----sounds like top fuel back in the later 60s His crew was just a couple of his old time friends that weren't really up to speed on drag racing at this level and we have been crewing for him--the car has a data colletion, but they didn't do a lot with it, same as weather data---carbs came with these jets, why change them????? Jerry |
Jerry,
Yeah, when were kids in the mid-late 60's we'd go to Union Grove and it was a major event to see a top fuel car go 200 and in the 7's. I'll try to get up there next weekend. Lowell |
Yep---think for a minute how I feel--after having done that back then and now helping do it with a car with doors and carbs
