Safety belts / harness
Time to replace mine and thought I'd ask the members.
Any comments on the subject? Rants, raves? Why you chose a particular style or brand over another? Thanks in advance.:) |
I am very happy with Pyrotect.

Not sure if I see this on the one's you plan on purchasing, but some of these racing belts now come with a 'pull tab' on the release latch. My wife (and other passengers) always have a tough time getting the latch undone.

I'm still building, but I plan on installing schroth belts in my car. They use a 2 inch lap belt that is supposed to be more comfortable than the 3 inch belts. Also, they are DOT approved. One less issue to worry about with the local authorities.

Get Simpsons or Pyrotech but with cam-lock latches. Very easy to release and that's helpful in a street driven car and vital in a racecar.

I would think that your first consideration would be where and how you would mount your shoulder harnesses. As you know, there are the "Y" style mounting, and the individual shoulder harness belts - mounted to a lug or the rollbar, wrap-arounds, etc. What style of latch would be my last consideration for now. BTW: I have a "Y" type belt you can play around with if you like to see if you can make it work before you commit to purchasing a full set.

Since he already has belts it's implied he's not reinventing the mount locations. The latch style, after you've selected a brand that mounts the same as what you have, is the next primary consideration. "Y" types are never recommended due to the closeness near the neck and load factor on the single mounting bolt. They're not used in any serious applications. |
Does anyone know of a way to retrofit the cam-lock to the old style Simpson harness? My belts are practically new , but I want cam lock.

I bought Corbeau belts and use 4 of the 5 straps in SPF 2743. They have a cam lock release and work great. I had to reverse one cam lock fixed strap so both driver and passenger belts had the cam lock on the belt away from either door. There's a great attach point in the Superformance just behind the seats at shoulder height. If you're interested, PM me and I'll send you a copy of the Superformance Technical Service tip sent to me by Blas
