Insurance question

I bought a non-donor 427 Cobra (900 miles on it) from a guy in Rhode Island and it'll be in my garage within the week. On the FFR forum I've read a lot about difficulty getting insurance. I figured it was best to post on a more local forum to hear the good/bad/ugly comments about what you've done.

On a side note,
I'll have a full rear bumper and the 2 chrome front bumper covers to swap (+ $) with someone for those small "jackng" bumpers.

I'm still building my FFR. Call Robbin, his information is below. Great guy to deal with.

I will be happy to swap my brand new chrome 4 "Quik Jacks" for 4 "Over riders" ? (no extra $) they are the same price anyway.

My AAA agent rated it like a 1965 mustang convertible with a assigned value.

Another vote for Robbin from my corner of the world.

PANAVIA,

I would be a little concerned about how your car was insured. It is not a Ford Mustang and do you really want an Insurance Company finding that out after you have a loss. Not saying you did anything wrong at all but I would be a little concerned about that, why not call it what it is a Cobra Replica. If AAA knew that would they insure it? There is a little clause in almost all applications that states if there is any falsified on the application coverage is void. Once again not saying you did anything wrong but why not insure it the way it should be. Also AAA, to the best of my knowledge, only writes a stated amount policy and you really do not want that at all.

Take care and good luck with things.

Good point Robbin,

I was denied today by AAA once they found out it was a Shelby replica.

I work in the insurance industry and what Robbin said is GOSPEL.

I can name several companies, (Allstate, Allstate, Allstate, etc.) that would deny coverage in a heartbeat and never look back if they discovered any discrepency in your vehicle description.

This is one area you don't want to fudge on. It willl come back and bite you in the butt big time.

I used AAA and the agent put me with Progressive. Her husband is a gear-head and she knew exactly what a replica Cobra was. She explained it to the ins. co. and they insured it as described in the registration: "1965 Roadster". All she had to go by was the Backdraft Racing brochure with pics and descriptions. I also showed her the web page for the company. No Problem.

I bought my policy through NW Insurance (written by Infinity Insurance). Agreed value and unlimited mileage.

The only problem with the Progressive policy is they write a stated amount coverage which means you are not guaranteed what you would be paid in the event of a total loss. Their rates are generally a little higher also.

We write for Infinity as well. California is the only State they actually have an unlimited mileage program. Not sure why they did not do this in others as well. We also write with American Modern. They allow you to drive the car to work occasionally which is something Infinity and many others will not. Most of the Companies will not let you take the car on a "vacation" as well. I have been pretty happy with the movement into a broader meaning of pleasure use with American Modern.
