help me identify part that fell off car...
 

I'm not very mechanical and when I was under my car today trying to figure out why the car isn't as quiet as my girlfriend's Civic ...a part fell down onto my chest. I'm not sure what it is but it did leave a pretty large void behind what I assume is the engine. Any ideas? Is it an important piece?

naw thats extra, i'll bet the gas mileage will triple without it

Yea, it was just added to take up space between the engine and rear end. As stated above, without it your gas mileage will really go up.

Yes, Just an optional spacer between the engine & drive shaft. The car will be mucher lighter without it & will roll better in & out of the garage when you are pushing it.

It looks to be the elusive flux capacitor, gas mileage robbing component, not needed.

It very well may be extra weight intended to smoothe out some indetectable harmonic vibration, but you should be fine with out it. I doubt you'll ever know it's missing.

OMG, do not throw away an original flux capacitor. Extremely expensive. You could get a couple of Kirkhams for it.

If you do remove it from your Cobra, you will need to add a muffler bearing to each side exhaust.

Leave it to the Brits to turn the word Transmission into a paragraph!

I'm not very mechanical either but I think you guys have it all wrong!

It looks like a transmission to me. To check, just start the car and shift into first gear and let out the clutch. It the car doesn't move forward, I'd bet dollars to donuts that I'm right and it is the transmission. Another way to tell is if the shifter moves very freely between gears.

Just put the transmission back in the car and you should be ok.

Maurice, sounds to be very intune with the automotive process. I was convinced that what he said had to be correct, but to make sure I looked it up in a manual and I'm almost positive that it is your air bag deployment system controller. I would not drive the car without having it reinstalled and certified by a qualified technition. It may void your warranty if you attempt to do it yourself.
