help me identify part that fell off car...
1 Attachment(s)
I'm not very mechanical and when I was under my car today trying to figure out why the car isn't as quiet as my girlfriend's Civic ...a part fell down onto my chest. I'm not sure what it is but it did leave a pretty large void behind what I assume is the engine. Any ideas? Is it an important piece?
|
naw thats extra, i'll bet the gas mileage will triple without it
|
Yea, it was just added to take up space between the engine and rear end. As stated above, without it your gas mileage will really go up.
Ron  |
Yes, Just an optional spacer between the engine & drive shaft. The car will be mucher lighter without it & will roll better in & out of the garage when you are pushing it.
|
It looks to be the elusive flux capacitor, gas mileage robbing component, not needed.
|
It very well may be extra weight intended to smoothe out some indetectable harmonic vibration, but you should be fine with out it. I doubt you'll ever know it's missing.
|
That must be one helluva Honda Civic.....

By any chance, did you lose a battery a while ago?

Pete,
Do not accept the earlier posts and descriptions of the significance of your attached photo item. This device is a major component whose purpose is to convert latex based hollow do-nut shaped fittings at the extreme rear corners of the vehicle into carbon-based vapor, and cotton-based undergarments into collection receptacles for exhausted effluent. The latter function is as the result of a neuro- physio exchange colloquially known as "scaring the sh1t out of you". The component, whose correct description is " a geologically based, molecularly altered casting, in the shape of a truncated cone", contains sets of various diameter cylinders, around whose periphery are machined intermeshing peaks and troughs, and are carried on parallel shafts whose centres are consistent with the main casting. These assemblies convert rotationeal energy into linear acceleration at lightning speeds, often leading to the aforementioned latex vapourisation and cotton ruination. The item which initiates this entire phenomenon, is missing from the photo, and is a flat dish-shaped assembly supported by the shown splined shaft, and consisting of helically- wound thrust-absorbance coils and friction-repelling contact surfaces. This device, known as the clutch, is operated by the left extreme lower appendage of a sometimes, mentally deficient operator. ** Footnote Should any of the above nomenclature be unclear to American readers, an application of the "Laws for British Sports Cars", as recently posted by CobraBill, should be applied. As a British subject (Bermudian) I thought some-one needed to clarify this issue. ;) |
Leave it to the Brits to turn the word Transmission into a paragraph!
|
I'm not very mechanical either but I think you guys have it all wrong!
It looks like a transmission to me. To check, just start the car and shift into first gear and let out the clutch. It the car doesn't move forward, I'd bet dollars to donuts that I'm right and it is the transmission. Another way to tell is if the shifter moves very freely between gears. Just put the transmission back in the car and you should be ok. |
Thanks Maurice
Its all clear to me now.....for a minute i confused.:D |
Maurice, sounds to be very intune with the automotive process. I was convinced that what he said had to be correct, but to make sure I looked it up in a manual and I'm almost positive that it is your air bag deployment system controller. I would not drive the car without having it reinstalled and certified by a qualified technition. It may void your warranty if you attempt to do it yourself.
I hope that I was a little help. |
Looks like part of a hand rest for your right hand.
