We hear from Rich & Carroll about the same frequency.

mdmull 07-13-2009 02:15 PM

Where's the other Rich?? Hey Musson, did you scare Judy too much last year?

RichMusson 07-13-2009 03:05 PM

No Judy and I are in.
However Judy says she will NOT accompany me on the ride this year. I guess that little spin-out effected her.

Blas 07-13-2009 03:12 PM

Spin?
With the Geo 4 cylinder running on 3 cylinders?
Maybe a Swoop?

Bob Malmen 07-13-2009 04:34 PM

Did someone mention "spin-out"?

Im good any time on Friday.

Wolfie 07-16-2009 05:58 PM

We are good to go anytime friday ,,,,, just say when.
I've got a brand new pair of Speedos to try out at the pool!

Bob Malmen 07-17-2009 11:03 AM

Hey leave your speedo in the dash!

pilotdad13 07-17-2009 07:02 PM

Mike,

Have you decided on a leave time from the Road Pilot? Sounds like the majority would like to leave aroud 12 Noon. I'll do my best to get there, but don't wait, I'll make it for cocktails, rain or shine.

HELLO EVEYBODY:

This entire post is weather contingent. Considering how badly this summer has sucked up until now that is a very big statement. Frankly, right now the weather does not look great for next weekend. That aside I would like to make a suggestion.

It seems most everyone wants to go up on Friday. However, there does not seem to be a conscience of opinion as to what time everyone wants to leave. I would like to suggest two different leave times.

First group:
Meet at the Road Pilot Station in Hampshire and be ready to leave around noon or so. Since we will spend the rest of the weekend on back roads we will take the most direct route up. At this time of day & not withstanding construction we should be able to get out of the area on the toll road without a major delay. We should arrive at devils head at around 3:30 to 4:00 in the afternoon. Then we get the thrill of seeing Wolfe in his new Speedos.

Second group:
Meet at the Road Pilot Station in Hampshire and be ready to leave around 3:30 or so. We will are taking a more back road route in order to avoid road construction. We would plan on arriving around 7:30 to 8:00. No matter which group y’all decide to join we should have time to enjoy each others company before turning in for the evening.

Please vote for which group you intend to join!!

mdmull 07-20-2009 09:06 AM

Rich, Thanks for the herding of the cats. Ok to recap:

1 Early group rendevous @ Road Pilot @ noon, leave no later than 12:30. Likely candidates are: Rich & Judy, me & Kim, Sid, Bob, Arcenio & Sue, Wolf & Mary.
2. Late Group Leaving sometime after 1:30-2:00 PM - Likely candidates are: Marty & Pat, Fred & Sue, Tim & Peg. Can I Assume that Fred will be contact person?
3. Special people - Lee & Karlene - Rockford north when they can; Mark & Laura - Saturday AM.

Anyone, of course, can choose their own group, or I'm sure can find their way. It's often nice to have company for potential breakdowns or fuel shortages (Wolfie - bring a gas can)

Current weather forecast isn't great but doable I think (isolated t-storms, only adds to the experience)

Also reminder to fuel up at the Mobil station at the Lodi exit from I90/94.

I'll send this via e-mail also

Wolfie 07-21-2009 07:53 PM

We'll be there @ noon, and I'm wearing the speedos just in case it rains!

galla4 07-21-2009 08:55 PM

Speedos and an empty gas tank - the Cheeseheads are running for cover.

Okay……….The weather for the weekend seems to be pretty good.

Unfortunately, Friday does not look all that great. We have, at minimum, the infamous: ‘possibility of widely scattered &/or locally severe thunder showers’ (whatever the heck that tells us). Actually, right now the weather does not look even that good.
Looks like the weather will come down from the Madison/ Baraboo area. So while it might be okay in the Chicago area we need to keep an eye on what we will be driving into.
My actual decision on Friday will be this evening.

In the meantime we will keep a close eye on the weather while considering alternatives.

mdmull 07-23-2009 06:35 AM

Spoken like a true blue car weenie. We just need to avoid being widely scattered and if we are being severe, do so globally.

In all seriousness, I'm planning the stick with the existing plan, after Friday, the weather forecast is fine, & the early group probably has a better chance of arriving dry.

If the Saturday forecast goes to s***, we'll probably drive the Audi. The company will still be great, the roads are still great, the cocktails will taste almost as good, & there is an indoor pool for Wolfie & the Speedo.

Looks like our plans may be changing… not because of the weather; thought that is still to be evaluated.
Here’s the thing. Judy was out-of-town yesterday. She did not get back to O’Hare & home until well after 3:00am. Right now she is still sleeping & I have long ago learned to ‘let a sleeping woman lie’.
Looks like the later we leave the more likely hood of hitting rain. That would require me to dress like Wolfie. However, since I do not own Speedo’s, I will wear my ‘Slowo’s’. (You know it’s that whole 3-cylinder GEO thing).
If the weather looks too bad we will either take the Lexus or consider driving up early Saturday. I will post again after Judy wakes-up & we can evaluate the rain.

Bob Malmen 07-24-2009 07:57 AM

Pe Wee the weatherman say no rain!!!!!

RichMusson 07-24-2009 09:55 AM

It is a miracle; Judy woke-up. However, she says if we get rained on she will never ever ride in the Cobra again. Looks like I will have a pennant ‘Sid Seat’ after this trip.
We are leaving now for the meeting place.

RichMusson 07-27-2009 09:38 AM

Dr Mike
Overall after considering:

1. The weather.
2. The breakdown.
3. The Police intrusion.
4. My 3 cylinder Geo being the fastest car timed by the Police.
5. The fact that air is evenly distributed.
6. The numerous times I was lost an on a different route that everyone else.
7. Still not knowing if everyone actually made it home.

Considering all of this; I would rate the weekend -- incredible and I would give it an A+
Thanks for doing this.

Rich

mdmull 07-27-2009 02:01 PM

I hope all had a great time! Kim & I did.

Wolf had his usual - doused a little, breakdown, trailered home, but accompanied by his wonderful wife Mary.

Next year I'll try to develop talking maps, that slap you up side the head when you make a wrong turn.

Other than Friday night the weather was really good, last weekend in July could have been a scorcher as well as wet at times.

I can't wait for a picture of Bob's car & I guess yours to e-mail to the Richland police. I'd like to make sure the Lady cop sees it, does any remember her name?

They must have clocked you going downhill, or maybe clocked the CORVETTE instead (name withheld to avoid further embarrassment!

Can't vouch for everyone's safe return but I safely got four cars back to the Road Ranger (with help from Fred, or actually Navigator Sue)

I'll be out later this week with ratings for the participants. The computer rating system is trying to figure out how to deal with the Corvette in our midst.

MM

snake oil 07-27-2009 09:25 PM

Corvette?

At least I didn't drive an Audi!

Hey besides the police pulled us all over but let the "corvette" and the Mercedes go!

The very nice police officer said:
"You are free to go as soon as traffic allows.
We want to talk to the two "BLUE" cars.:CRY::CRY:
It seems my partner clocked one at 79 mph."

Hmmm....in a 35mph zone? tsk, tsk, tsk...

You know those guys with "BLUE" cars always causin' trouble.
