Need powdercoat or Jet-Hot?

Unless you know someone locally who does these types of things, your limited to mail order. If you are like me, you dislike packing things up and sending your expensive parts via mail. Too many chances for damage. Let me offer an alternative. I found this guy, Tim Dieball, who has a powdercoating business in Wisconsin. The great thing about this is that Tim lives in Arlington Heights! You can drop things off and Tim just takes it to work with him and brings it back when it's finished. I just got an intake manifold powdercoated by Tim and it turned out great! I've also seen some Jet-Hot type coatings that Tim does and it also looks good. If you have a need for these services, give Tim a call at 847-800-7708. The name of his business is Motorsport Powdercoating.

Do you happen to know how much Tim would charge to Jet-Hot a set of headers? They are currently painted black, can he blast them, or would I need to prep them first?

Wouldn't recommend powder coating as a substitute for ceramic/aluminum coating on exhaust components. Different coating for different purposes. And you don't necessarily have to use "Jet-Hot" either. Jet-Hot is like Scotch tape, or Coca Cola. A number of firms provide the same product. Surprising that somewhere in the Chicago metro area there isn't a shop that does this.

And nearly every neighborhood shopping center has a Mailboxesetc, or some kind of mailing/shipping service that will package and ship your parts. Had to ship sidepipes and headers to Airborne coatings in Connecticut that way. Have a muffler rebop job for them too, courtesy of the CR sidepipe chronicles.

As an alternative to powder coating, so long as the color is black, most hardware stores carry Rustoleum epoxy appliance enamel. This stuff is as good as powder coating when it hardens. Stuff has to be filed off to remove it.

Header coating

Tom,

I've seen some headers that Tim has coated and they look great. My suggestion would be to call Tim and tell him what you have. I'm sure he can give you a ballpark price.

We are located in Nebraska and have been the coating buisness for five years. For BB headers and pipes we get $550. For SB headers and pipes we get $520. You can look at Rich Andersons Shell Valley Show cars to see our work. 402-786-2887 Central Check them out and you will see we offer a small shop quality that the big boys can't match.
