4 Post Lift from Greg Smith Equipment

Don't know if anyone is shopping for a four (4) post lift, but mine was installed today. I bought if from Greg Smith equipment in Indianapolis and it is a 8,000# capacity and for $2,200, it is well built and has an extended warranty, which is unusual for these lifts. I had a guy contracted to pick it up and deliver it to my home in Elburn. He assembled the lift and checked everything out. The lift worked perfect and is exactly what I wanted. It also cost me $400 to have my garage door retrofit, panels added, and raised up to the ceiling. The bill for pick up at truck terminal and assembly was
$500, and after watching these 2 guys work for 4 hours, it was well worth the five hundred bucks!

If you get a chance, take a look at www.gregsmithequipment.com, they sell a lot of cool stuff for the garage and the prices are hard to beat.

Hey Road King, too bad you didn't mention this before you had it installed for 5 large ones.. My buddy Dale, a butcher by trade, and I, a washing machine repair guy, installed mine about 2 years ago in about 4 hours. Now that we've done the first one I think we could probably do it in half that time with less beer in us than the first time.
Lets see, $500.00 is about 40 cases of beer, just think how many club members would have shown up to help put that thing together.
With all those helpers that lift could have been up in 13 and a half minutes.

Nice. What garage ceiling height is required for this lift?

My garage celing is 10'-5" and with the car up in the air, there is about 6" between the top of the windshield/roll bar and the garage ceiling.

As far as the cost of getting the unit installed, my main problem was getting the lift from the truck terminal to my house since I don't own nor know anyone with a trailer or the ability to haul a piece of equipment that weighed 1,800 pounds. Even though it did cost me $500 for the pick-up, delivery and install, I still think it was well worth the money and I still have a refrigeratior full of beer and nobody was taken to the emergency room during the install!

I actually did mine by myself.
I do not believe it took all that long; as I recall it took a full afternoon.
I must admit back then I was not allowed to drink when I was around heavy machinery........

Today it would probably take at least a week; maybe more.

You were smarter than me. I bought used and later found it is a cheap chinese version. I installed myself and modified my garage door and ceiling also. I feel the greg smith model is the absolute best deal for the money on the 4 post lift market. Mine works perfect but it has no backup if the lift (cylinder, hose) would fail while lowering. While raising it ratches up.

In addition now that I have it, I would never be able to live without one. So buy the best you can afford because you will have it a long long time.

Greg Smith

My wife got the park plus 8000lbs on with the two sliding jacks and the oil drain can for my bday this year. Greg Smith was great with the delivery and it took me and my daughters guypal about 6 hours to install it. My ceiling is 11'6'' with 12'6'' in the center and it works great. It is the absolute best gift ever!

She said she wanted me to have it because the last time I changer the oil in her car she heard me grunt trying to get out from under it.

I can pick my Cobra or the old Fairlane up all the way and still park my Chevy ext cab under it. With the sliding jacks there is a lot more you can do with it so if you buy one try to purchase them together and they will make a better deal. I also had a rotissere wit it for my brother. You won't regret buying this lift!

What a Great Wife.:)

The other good thing about dealing with Greg Smith Equipment is the fact they answer the phone when you call and can help with any issue you might have. I had a long plastic cover plate that got damaged in shipping after it left their shop in Indiana and when I call they said no problem, they will send a replacement immediately and said they were sorry for the inconvenience!!

Plus when I was in their Indy store I was asking the sales guy on the floor a bunch of questions and he said.."are you some kind of Engineer?", to which I said yes and then acknowledged that he seemed to know a lot about the 4 post lifts and he said..."well I ought to....my name is Greg Smith!!" Like I said earlier, this was the best $2,300 I could have spent on the Cobra!

4 post lift installation

I'm also planning on buying a Pro Park lift from Greg Smith. From their web site the installation doesn't look to be too difficult, but I'm concerned about the freight delivery coordination and unloading it off the truck at my house. Who did you have deliver and assemble your lift? I might be interested in spending $500 for delivery and assembly. I work in Geneva and live in Naperville.

The pick up and delivery part was almost a show-stopper for me until I saw this guys business sticker on my neighbors lift, and come to find out this guy had a large Dodge 2500 Diesel truck with a large tandem wheel trailer that he picks you lift up at the truck terminal. The guys name is Andy Buckler and he lives in Elgin. I had the lift delivered to R&L Freight in Elgin so it was easy for him to pick up. I ordered my lift on Friday and it shipped the following Monday and was at the truck terminal in Elgin on Tuesday. Andy's phone number is 847 757-4361. Since you work in Geneva, you can stop by the house here in Elburn if you like and see the lift in my garage. Give me a call on my cell at 312 919-8609, I should be home most of the day tomorrow.
