Just had a mishap on my 427 top oiler. Number one cyl started popping through weber and sounded like an exhaust leak. Upon opening valve cover I discovered that the cotter key for the rocker shaft had broke and allowd #1 exhaust rocker to move laterally, Also found adj bolt tip broken thus slightly holding open exh. valve. Stem is still same height as other valves so I dont think its bent. Have still to get a replacement adj bolt so have not confirmed extent of damage. I think I am OK at this point.
    Question
Did the broken cotter key cause Rocker adj nut to fail or vise versa? Anyone have this occur on their engine? Damage? Any comments suggestions welcomed. This is not a good time for big bucks to go into the FE.
