I used to drill holes in the radiator tanks, then poke plain brazing rod thru, front to back in 3 or 4 places. solder them in place so the expansion and contraction, pressure up, then off wouldn't...

Worked at ford in the day they built those. a lot of engines were built with whatever parts they could make fit due to supplier problems. you can't always go by the book for replacements
